Rough morning in Nashville. After a Colton Sissons goal was disallowed, the Pittsburgh Penguins went on to win 2-0 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. Seeing Sidney Crosby skate the Cup inside the confines of Bridgestone Arena is going to sting for quite some time. But, at least we have minor victories like this one to hang our hats on.
Mike Milbury made himself an enemy of the Smashville conglomerate when he said P.K. Subban “had it coming” after Sidney Crosby dribbled his head repeatedly off the ice like a basketball. Subban’s a beloved figure here, and we all know Milbury seems to have an axe to grind with him. It’s a recipe for what happened in that video to happen.
I believe the direct quote there is, “get the fuck outta Nashville, Milbury! Fuck you, Milbury!” Something of the sort. Personally, I love it. I know a lot of other fan bases talk about things like ‘class’ and ‘respect’ and all that…but, this is just fun. There’s no other way to describe. It’s what Nashville is good at – just having fun letting Milbury know exactly what the city thinks of his analysis.
I think we’ve pretty well established Milbury’s villain status in Nashville by now. What this fan did, well, that’s what we call “giving him the business.” It’s a representation of the passion this town has for hockey and its loyalty to the players.
I stand with this fan. And, it’s worth noting that I don’t harbor the same feelings towards Milbury. I don’t think he should’ve said what he said on air, but he stuck to his guns. He didn’t shrivel up and issue some half-assed apology for his comments. He is what he is – sometimes, he comes off as an old curmudgeon. A lot of the hockey guys on Twitter refer to him as “old hockey.” And, that’s fine.
He handled the heckler just fine, though it did seem to throw him out of his element just a bit. All in all, this is a fun story. Maybe we can make a shirt design out of this? For now, you’ll just have to stick to the ‘Crosby sucks‘ design we have in our Redbubble store.
