Perhaps there’s nothing more representative of the summer time, nothing more reminiscent of America, than a good old-fashioned hot dog at the backyard cookout. We’ve got 4th of July weekend coming up, with the big holiday taking place on Tuesday. And, with many a family throwing down some classic, vintage Oscar Mayers on the grill this weekend, the hot dog kingpin has dropped some amazing news…
An Oscar Mayer drone? When pigs fly! Well, now they’re flying—quite literally—in the form of hot dogs with the meat and cold cut company’s latest vehicle: the WienerDrone.
In tandem with the also new and also hilarious WienerCycle, the dynamic duo will join forces with the iconic Wienermobile to visit Weiner, Arkansas for an assumedly grill-heavy 4th of July celebration. The pit stop is to highlight Oscar Meyer’s decision to remove all added nitrates, nitrites, and artificial preservatives from its line of hot dogs.
“As the most iconic brand, we’re going where other hot dogs can’t. We’re committed to getting our new hot dog in everyone’s hands – and we knew that was a job for more than just our iconic Wienermobile,” Gred Guidott, Oscar Mayer’s head of marketing, said in a release. “We’ve expanded our Oscar Mayer fleet, ensuring every American can taste the new recipe, because we believe everyone deserves a better hot dog.”
Wow. Moment of silence for Oscar Mayer out there doing the Lord’s work. I mean, has any American institution adapted to the future the way that Oscar Mayer has?
I grew up with that WienerMobile. As a 30-year old man, that WienerMobile was a YUGE part of my childhood. I can distinctly remember the Hot Wheels WienerMobile being the Holy Grail of Hot Wheels cars. That thing was incredibly hard to find – right up there with the Hasbro WWF 1-2-3 Kid, and the second Wolverine action figure that came out. I found one at a car show once, and it felt like one of the biggest victories of my life. When I received my college degree, when Tom Arnold said our web site was funny, and finding the WienerMobile Hot Wheels at a car show. That’s my life summed up in three accomplishments.
Now, my kids will have the WienerDrone to revere as American legend. Well, I don’t have kids….and by the time I have kids…it will probably be the WienerAutonomousCar…but, still. You get the point – Oscar Mayer has proven itself as a brand that will never die.
Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.
