“See that luxurious fountain? You know what would be cool? If we had a rope swing hanging over the rocks, and I could climb a ladder and then swing over everything. Oh, and everything is wet because we’re next to a pool. But, we can film it, and it’s going to look really cool.”

I just don’t understand the thought pattern here, but it’s a firm reminder that the laws of physics rule over us all. This guy tried to disobey them, and it likely broke his back. I mean, there’s no way this guy got up and walked this off, right? Hell, he may have died, which would violate my rule of writing about people dying. Shit, you just never know with these short clips on Instagram. But, since it is on Instagram, I’m assuming he’s okay. Definitely hurting, maybe in critical care, but surely he’s alive.

As a guy who has climbed a ladder before, I could never recommend putting one next to a pool like this. Also, as a guy who has swung off a rope swing before, I could never recommend doing so over any sort of rock/concrete structure. It’s just too unpredictable. Finally, any sort of stunt like this increases exponentially in danger the wetter you are. If you’re dry, it’s still risky. But, if you’re soaking wet, it may as well be certain death. Just count on it.

So, let this serve as a PSA for your summer. The next time your buddy wants to climb a ladder and swing out over some sort of unforgiving structure, just say no.

Thanks and take care.
