Joker Origin Movie In Development

Well holy shit! we could be getting a fucking Joker origins movie and I’m sure there are some mixed emotions about it. Nerds and DC fanboys everywhere have had their panties in a wad over the DCEU since Man Of Steel was released in 2013, so it’s safe to say there were some eye brows raised last week over this news. So, strap on your novelty Batman beer holder hat (c’mon I know you have one) and load it with your favorite DC haterade beverage of choice and lets get into this shit.

News of a Joker Origin Movie broke last week, with Martin Scorsese set to produce (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Departed…need I say more?) and Todd Philips (The Hangover) set to write and direct. The real twist to this news though, is that this film will not be related to anything existing in the DCEU but will be part of a yet to be announced imprint of DC films. Creating separate cinematic universes gives off the vibe that everyone involved is looking to have some sort of out if more of the DCEU films continue to be critical flops but also still be the heroes if they wind up with a hit.

The next part of this story will most likely be the best for the majority of readers but seems the most bizarre to me. Jared Leto will not return as the tatted up hipster gangster version of The Joker but will still appear in any DCEU related films, including the recently announced Joker-Harley Quinn criminal love story spin off (barf). Whether you loved or hated Leto’s portrayal, I think it’s safe to say we should all be happy that we at least got these snazzy costumes outta the deal.

Now, here is the part of a possible Joker Origin that makes my pants get a little tighter. The film is said to be a more gritty crime piece set in an early 80s Gotham, which I imagine would be like if Tim Burton’s Gotham fucked Christopher Nolan’s Gotham and had a baby. The Joker is the Clown Prince of fucking crime! and he deserves to be treated as such! If the crew on this film right now is able to pull off this vision of a Joker Origin story it would have the potential to make everyone fall back in love with the cinematic version of The Joker.
