Esteemed Football Analyst, Kenny Britt, Says DeShone Kizer Is Going to Be One of the Greats

The Cleveland Browns absolutely killed the 2017 NFL Draft. They left the first night with Myles Garrett, Jabrill Peppers, and David Njoku. Then, at #52 overall, the Browns selected a guy they hope will become their franchise quarterback: DeShone Kizer. Some, myself included, thought the former Notre Dame signal-caller would be one of the first two quarterbacks selected. At the very least, the consensus was a first round selection. But, he slipped out of the first round as Mitchell Trubisky, Pat Mahomes, and DeShaun Watson went before him.

But, now, according to the reputable Kenny Britt, it’s coming out that all of the teams that passed on Kizer made a grave mistake.

Browns wide receiver Kenny Britt has already played with 10 starting quarterbacks in his nine-year career, so when he predicts big things for rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer, it carries a lot of weight.

I don’t know. If you play with 10 different starting quarterbacks in nine years, how does that give you an idea of what a good quarterback looks like? Or, is this like, “DeShone doesn’t do anything like those other quarterbacks I played with. Therefore, that must mean he’s good.”

“He’s growing each day, each day,” Britt said Sunday before day four of Browns training camp. “From OTAs, I could tell he was a different person. I actually asked him yesterday has the offense slowed down for him. He said, ‘Yes,’ and I could tell that he’s looking at certain things. He’s seeing the defense before the snap count, and once he lines up, he knows there’s certain things he has to do, and he’s going to be one of the great ones.”

Good, good. If anyone can be an accurate judge of growth and character, it’s Britt. As a quarterback, it’s probably a really good thing when you can line up and know what to do when the ball is snapped. If that’s really the case in Browns camp, then my God, Kizer is going to be one of the great ones. But, it all hinges upon whether or not he knows what to do when he lines up.

One of the great ones? Already? He can see that after only a few training camp practices?

You know, I wasn’t going to be rude and ask this myself, but it’s a valid question. Britt has already put in an order for Kizer’s Hall of Fame ring evidently.

“Yeah, if he keeps going, focuses on the track that he’s on, to tell you the truth, he could be one of the great ones,” Britt said. “He’s learning fast and he’s got a strong arm.”

Again, can we establish what ‘great’ is for Britt? Because I don’t know if that means Kizer is actually going to be good, or if he’s going to be like 2008 old man Kerry Collins.
