I’m not a big advocate of vehicle theft, but I did rather enjoy playing GTA as a teenager, so like most issues, I guess I come down somewhere in the middle. I’m a reasonable guy. I try to see points of view from all walks of life. Still, I would think that if you come down on the pro-vehicle theft side of this issue, even you would agree….if you’re going to steal a car, you probably should make sure there aren’t police officers inside it.
Courtesy of Channel News Asia:
A would-be car thief in Japan has been nabbed after he tried to steal a vehicle – with several police officers inside.
Ushio Sato, 23, was caught red-handed trying to make off with the unmarked police car in his failed pre-dawn heist on Monday (Sep 25), said a police spokeswoman in the central city of Numazu.
She declined to give more details.
Japanese media reports said the luckless Sato did not notice there were officers inside the unlocked vehicle, which was at a local parking lot.
He immediately fled but was quickly caught, according to the Sankei newspaper.
It was not clear if the officers were wearing uniforms or were on duty at the time.
Forget that these people are officers of the law for a moment. Who is stealing cars with people inside it these days?!?! Is that a thing now? They don’t even try and pistol whip you and leave you in the streets anymore? You’re just along for the ride? I don’t know how any of this works.
In that regard, I don’t think it matters whether the officers were wearing uniforms or not. That doesn’t really make this better, it just adjusts the level of comedy in this story.
But, can you imagine the feeling in this dude’s gut when he realized what a mistake he made?
I haven’t heard of any other stories like this one, so I’m willing to say the number of successful car heists with police in the car will remain at 0.
