It’s not like Oakland Raiders wide receiver Seth Roberts came out and piled up the yardage against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. But, his one reception went for 19 yards and a touchdown that pretty well iced it for his team. In 2016, he recorded two catches for 27 yards…but…yet again, he caught a touchdown that put the Raiders up 17-3, and the Titans could never recover from it. Now, rewind even further back. It’s 2015 – and Roberts GASHES the Titans defense with six receptions for 113 yards and two touchdowns….including, you guessed it, the game winning touchdown with only 1:21 left on the clock.
How did we get here, folks?! Roberts is a third year receiver who has so averaged 35 receptions, 438.5 yards, and five touchdowns a season. A SEASON! Yet, he seems to always find a way to murder the Titans. I mean, you crunch some numbers and 13% of his receptions have come against the Titans. 18% of his yardage has come at the expense of the Titans secondary. Finally, an outright astonishing 36% (!!!!!) of his touchdowns have come against the Titans.
Don’t get me wrong – Roberts is a good, serviceable player on a potent Raiders offense. But, come on – let’s not act like he’s Antonio Brown or Julio Jones lining up every snap. Why are the Titans never prepared for this guy?
Theories
1. He has sold his soul to the devil to beat the Titans. Some would say this is lunacy, but I think it’s the most logical explanation. Think about it – if every member of the Raiders sells his soul to beat an NFL team, they will eventually have enough souls sold to win a Super Bowl. It just so happens that Roberts drew the Titans. Stay woke.
2. He has put money on the Raiders to win against the Titans every year and has played out of his mind in an effort to win his bets.
3. It’s possible that Roberts smells like ass on game days and no one on the Titans defense wants to cover or tackle him when he’s in the game.
4. There’s some sort of magnet system between the football and Roberts’ gloves.
5. Finally, and the least probable if you ask me, the Titans secondary is thin to begin with, so it makes it easier for the third receiver to come out and have a big game against the team. I don’t know, just a thought.
The Raiders host the New York Jets on Sunday, while the Titans travel to Florida for a date with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
