Where the SoBros Stand (or Kneel) on the NFL Protests

All week, we’ve stated that we were staying out of all of this. Quite frankly, there are no new opinions on this matter anymore. We don’t really cover politics. Personally, coming from the Editor, I don’t want this web site to have one voice regardless of whether that is liberal or conservative. Maybe when we have enough writers producing content regularly enough, we can talk about having writers on each side, maybe even have one in the middle. Plus, I don’t know that people are really coming to this web site for that kind of content anyway. I mean, we write shit about kids running around with knives and dudes headbutting poles.

After convening with the team (Smokey, Poppa Bear, Herbie Brooks, Ralph Wiggum, and Rooster), we’ve decided we cannot sit idly by any longer. And, we’ve also established that we really need a piece to take off for us to hit our monthly traffic goals. This seems to be what everyone’s talking about, so why not jump in? People obviously care. So, let’s not lose sight of what’s important here – social injustice, respecting the flag and our country, and SoBros Network page views.

So, are you ready for this? These are our thoughts on this whole thing.

I think there are two significant points to make here. First, protests are about getting people’s attention. I think it’s safe to say that has been accomplished. Is it a reach to say that people are aware that players in the NFL are protesting? Yeah, probably not. Secondly, I think dancing in any manner during the national anthem would not only be more entertaining, but it might be a more effective manner of getting people’s attention.

There’s also a distinct possibility that it will get someone shot at an NFL game. Though our very own Ralph Wiggum thinks someone will be shot over this at some point this year anyway, he’s hoping that doesn’t happen.

Finally, in my closing point, I would just like to say that we wrote this article to see how many people would simply read the headline, comment on our Facebook page, and not read the article itself. Here are the lyrics to Toto’s “Africa:”

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She’s coming in, 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some long forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say, “Hurry boy, it’s waiting there for you”
It’s gonna take a lot to take me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless, longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what’s right
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what’s deep inside, frightened of this thing that I’ve become
It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
Hurry boy, she’s waiting there for you
It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
(I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa
(I bless the rain)
I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
(Ah, gonna take the time)
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
