Monday Night Football Is the “Must Winniest” Game of the Season for the Titans so Far

For the Tennessee Titans, last week was about as complete a loss as you’ll encounter in the NFL. You can’t blame the egg laid in Miami on any one thing. The officials tilted a 14-point swing with a bogus pass interference call on Jonnu Smith that negated a touchdown, and ruling a Matt Cassel incompletion a fumble and subsequent scoop and score. Seriously, I’ve never seen a fumble travel 13 yards forward in my life.

But, Cassel didn’t play particularly inspired football. His offensive line didn’t do a good job of protecting him. A lack of creativity in offensive play calling led to a lack of focus on playmakers. Why wasn’t there a concentrated effort to get Delanie Walker the ball? The defense was on the field so much that they were gassed by the fourth quarter. Though Jay Cutler did everything in his power to give the game to the Titans, they came away with a deflating 16-10 defeat.

Now, the team has to refocus for an AFC South showdown with a foe that haven’t beaten in years, despite having played them twice a year. The Indianapolis Colts are coming to Nashville for a prime time showdown on Monday Night Football.

For the Titans

It’s a group effort, but that team just looked flat out uninspired in Miami. Find a spark on offense. Play with confidence, and for the love of God, please….PLEEEEASE, Terry Robiskie, draw up something unpredictable. From the way this guy is calling games, you’d think he just discovered the jet sweep. Like, that’s the hip new play and is going to be the next wild cat or something.

Plain and simple, the run game needs to step up. The Titans are surprisingly still one of the best rushing teams in the NFL, but you wouldn’t know it just from the eye test. DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry failed to get anything going against the Dolphins, but this offense goes as the run game goes. They need to establish it early on Monday night.

For the Colts

It’s like I say this every week, but if you have a wide receiver that can make big plays, you should be set against the Titans. So, get T.Y. Hilton involved early. Hell, it’s still working for every other team against the Titans this season – see: Jarvis Landry, DeAndre Hopkins, Will Fuller, Doug Baldwin, etc. etc. If Hilton gets a hot start, it’s going to be a long night for the Titans secondary.

Command the line of scrimmage on defense. Cassel was solid (and I do believe Cassel plays Monday night) throwing the ball within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage, but I’m not sure he even completed a single pass down the field. It sure felt that way. Anyway, the Colts should just hold the line. Defend those 10 yards and that’ll make it hard on the Titans offense to move the ball.
