The 2017 SoBros Nashville Halloween Guide

It feels like there are about a million options out there for the Nashville Halloween. Everyone has different tastes, and considering Music City has become the it city that it is, all the bases should be covered. That said, take it from a few native Nashvillians

Downtown

If you’re thinking you’re going to go downtown this weekend and experience anything other than an absolute shit show, you are vastly mistaken. The last time I went downtown on Halloween, I woke up the next morning laying on my stomach, on the floor, face down in a pile of about five McDouble wrappers. I had no recollection of getting home or anything, and I will never do it again. Combing over my receipts from the night before, I realized I had paid for 36 drinks, and have no doubt that I probably drank that many. Nonetheless, there are two ways to do downtown Nashville on Halloween weekend.

2nd Avenue – I did Second Avenue that fateful night in 2012, and it was fine. Just be prepared to pay cover charges left and right. Some of the 2nd Ave bars banded together and charged one price to get into three bars. But, it’s rare that you’ll find a bar without a cover. If you’re happy with one place, The George Jones is hosting an event with NO COVER. And, they have one of the best rooftop bars in Nashville.

Demonbreun – It’s smaller, but it ain’t gonna be any tamer than 2nd Ave. You’re just going to get much more of a local vibe here, and much less touristy vibes. $15 for four bars ain’t half bad, folks.

Haunted Houses

There are some pretty decent haunted houses in the area. I’m not a haunted house type of guy – it strangely conflicts with my ‘fight or flight’ instincts, and puts me in a weird emotional state. In other words, I get scared, want to assault characters, but realize they’re just people in costumes and I would go to jail if I actually struck anyone. It’s weird, I know – but I end up just closing my eyes and walking through the whole thing trying to get it over with and it’s a colossal waste of money to me. But, hey – to each his own. Some of the more elaborate and exciting haunted houses I’ve been to or heard good things about include:

Attractions

The Glow – The Glow is my absolute number one recommended activity this season. The girlfriend and I actually went out to Fontanel a week ago, and it was a blast. A casual little stroll through the woods with all kinds of illuminated art pumpkins to peruse. And, yes – ‘illuminated art pumpkins’ is the best way to describe it.

Here Come The Mummies – these guys are wild, and they’re coming to Marathon Music Works on Saturday night.

Ghost Tours at The Hermitage – You better scramble to get tickets now, because only 25 people are allowed on each tour, and they only do this through October. But, this thing is well worth it, if not for the Bell Witch stories alone.

Pumpkinfest – food, crafts, music, downtown Franklin. What more do you need to hear? Pumpkinfest should be good for a much more calm relaxing Halloween weekend.

Nashville Ghost Tours – Personally and truthfully, I’ve never done the Nashville Ghost Tours, but they always pop up in conversation this time a year

Happy Halloween, folks. Stay safe out there and wrap up. You know what I mean.
