SEC Power Rankings: Week 7

Hey guys!

Another college football weekend is gone, inching us ever closer to that soul crushing day when it all ends. I’m sorry, that was rough and eye opening. Don’t shoot the messenger here folks, it’s not my fault that the truth hurts.

Anyway, what a wild weekend, amiright? Ranked teams dropping left and right. How did it change our Power Rankings? Let’s find out together. On to the rankings!

1. Alabama – The top two are lightyears ahead of the rest, and Alabama proved why they are the best. Is Arkansas impressive? No. But the Tide ran all over the Razorbacks, dominating the entire game. Arkansas was never in it. If they slip and miss out on the showdown with Georgia, we’re all going to be a little let down. They host Tennessee for what should be a lopsided Third Saturday in October.

2. Georgia – Is Georgia the second-best team in the country? I think they have a solid argument. The Bulldogs are definitely closing the gap with Alabama, and should cruise into Atlanta. They put a beatdown on a limping Missouri, but allowed entirely too many passing yards. They’ll get a solid rest this weekend during their bye week.

3. Texas A&M – I guess I should apologize for ranking the Aggies so low early on, but I won’t. Even though I think Florida isn’t a good team, getting a win in the Swamp is still major. Maybe the Aggies decided to do the opposite of the past, and instead just collapse early. Kevin Sumlin could finish this season 10-2. And man, won’t that make some boosters look stupid? Bye week city in College Station.

4. LSU – Down 20-0, the Tigers finally showed some fight and took down Auburn. This is the same team that lost to Troy at home, so your guess is as good as mine in where they go from here. It’s encouraging though, that LSU seems to have a pulse. Coach O heads back to Oxford this weekend.

5. Auburn – Listen, a loss is bad. A collapse might be the worst the losses though. Face it, this is a game Auburn should have won, and great teams don’t collapse. The Tigers are still a solid squad with a lot to play for, but the year could start to fizzle out with lost momentum. They need to take care of Arkansas this weekend.

6. South Carolina – Ugly wins are still wins, which I’m fairly certain is written on the wall in South Carolina. Tennessee isn’t exactly a powerhouse, but I won’t downplay a win in Neyland Stadium. The Gamecocks aren’t going to win the East, but they’re one win away from bowl eligibility. Take your wins where you can get them. They head to a bye week.

7. Mississippi State – If anyone can tell me who Miss State actually is, I’d be happy to know. Nick Fitzgerald demolished BYU, which was much needed after the last several disappointing weeks. The Bulldogs needed the momentum and will now need to carry that to Saturday when they welcome Kentucky.

8. Kentucky – Coming off of a bye week, the Wildcats head to Starkville.

9. Florida – Did you really expect them to win in those terrible uniforms? A 3-3 Florida is not a good Florida. The Gators have no teeth on offense and the defense isn’t elite enough to keep winning games on its own. McElwain should probably be feeling a little heat. Now they head to a much-needed bye week.

10. Ole Miss – Well, look who decided to play a little offense this week. I mean, it would have helped to play defense too, but baby steps here. After getting destroyed for two weeks, the Land-Rebel-Sharks decided to toughen up a little bit. We’ll see if it was a fluke when LSU comes to town.

11. Vanderbilt – I believed in you Vandy, But now? It’s like you never beat Kansas State. Thank God for bye weeks.

12. Tennessee – How does Butch Jones still have a job? I mean, it’s inevitable right? Just rip off the Band-Aid, and find someone new (and seriously, it won’t and shouldn’t be Gruden. Grow up Peter Pan.) It’s looking grim for the Vols with Alabama waiting.

13. Arkansas – Another week, another beat down. They are barely better than Missouri, and that’s not a compliment.

14. Missouri – …….this isn’t fun anymore. I’m starting to feel bad for them.

Have a great week folks! Poppa Bear loves you.
