The Mount Juliet HOA That Rejected This Little Free Library Has a Huge Dump in Its Pants

We all know homeowner’s associations typically hate fun. Immediately, the episode of Duck Dynasty when the HOA got on to Jase for having chickens roaming freely in his yard comes to mind. Just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. This sort of thing is exactly why I don’t want to move into a nice neighborhood. Well, one Mount Juliet HOA has renewed their fun police badge and is cracking the whip on a little girl who wants to make her neighborhood a more culturally refined place:

A Mt. Juliet mother is outraged after her homeowner’s association rejected her request to put a Little Free Library in her front yard.

Six-year-old Maggie told News 2 she loves to read. She asked her mother if they could put a Little Free Library in their yard similar to one located a few miles from their Mt. Juliet home.

“I want to build a community library because I want kids to learn to love to read like me,” explained Maggie.

Maggie’s mother Sara Sloane submitted the idea to her homeowner’s association’s architectural review committee.

In response, she received a letter reading in part, “The board discussed your request at length and felt that it was not in keeping with the neighborhood.”

News 2 reached out to the homeowners association for comment but they declined my request for an interview.

In today’s era of faux rage and being mad online, this is one cause worth genuine outrage. I don’t understand how you can read this story, watch that video, and not have your blood boiling. Maybe it’s the calming influence of Bob Mueller’s smooth, silky voice, but I don’t know. I am resistant to such hypnotism, so I’m not falling for it.

But, yes – this seems like a simple request, and I don’t know what this HOA is basing the claim that it doesn’t fit with the neighborhood. Did they run a poll? Did this family’s neighbors respond with, “gross! books!” or what?

Sure, you could say, “hey, people – why don’t you read all of the terms and conditions of the HOA before you sign the dotted line?” But, there’s no place for that nonsense here. This is about an adorable miniature free library.

It is proven science that books make children smart. It’s obvious that this HOA does not want the children of Mount Juliet, Tennessee to be smart. That is the only logical conclusion we can draw here.
