The City of Oakland Can Stay the Hell Away From the Tennessee Titans

You know….I thought…I hoped…that all of this talk about the Tennessee Titans leaving Nashville was behind us. There were a few turbulent years there when it seemed plausible that the Titans would be leaving the Music City. But, considering Nashville so hot right now, it’s hard to imagine any franchise wanting out. I certainly don’t even want to think about hearing ‘the Oakland Titans’ at all, but apparently people in California think that’s a possibility.

Speculation is now growing following a tweet by a San Francisco Chronicle reporter.

According to the tweet, Oakland’s Coliseum Authority is eyeing the Titans or the Jacksonville Jaguars to replace the Raiders who will be moving to Las Vegas beginning in the 2020 NFL season.

News 2 spoke with Coliseum Authority Executive Director Scott McKibben by phone Thursday. He confirmed the Titans and Jaguars were discussed as potential replacement teams during a board meeting Thursday in Oakland.

I’d love to be in these meetings. I just wonder how they go. Do you think people are like, “that’s a small town – they don’t need a pro football team. They’d be interested to make more money out here in mighty Oakland” or what?

However, McKibben added the Titans would only be targeted if the team were to be sold.

Well, that’s good. Just, out of curiosity….how would they be targeted if they weren’t to be sold? Invasion? Hostile takeover? You gonna send those rabid ass Oakland fans to Nissan Stadium to storm the gate?

There has been speculation for years that the Adams family, who currently owns the team, could entertain a sale.

The Titans front office has denied those claims.

It’s good to hear firmly that the team isn’t for sale and has no intentions of moving. But, that said, it’s still a little alarming to hear that people in the NFL circle still think it’s a possibility.

I love the Titans. This team has been a staple of our city for nearly two decades now. During the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Nashville showed that it’s capable of really getting behind their teams. With the Titans winning again, I expect to see that same sort of loyalty and buzz surrounding them.

I’ll say this: I’m not sure the NFL is better without Oakland. That town and that team has such a legendary character and football presence. They should have a team out there. But, maybe it’s the Jags (if they don’t move to London). Maybe it’s expansion. I don’t know. Just quit sniffin’ around Nissan Stadium, ya hear?
