The Minnesota Vikings are going to the NFC Championship thanks to a total whiff from New Orleans defensive back Marcus Williams. The walk-off touchdown was scored by Stefon Diggs, after Williams went for the kill shot instead of trying to wrap him up and bring him down in bounds. The play was there for the taking, and he simply failed to make it:

I don’t know what was going through the guy’s head. He just completely misjudged the play. I guess he thought he was going to hit Diggs so hard, he’d knock the ball loose or cause an incompletion. The problem, of course, is that he missed so bad that he barely touched Diggs. Just brutal.
The slow motion certainly doesn’t help the kid’s case:

I definitely feel bad for the kid – we all make mistakes. Our’s usually aren’t amplified like this. But, man – one screw-up by one person and the entire season is lost. That’s tough. It’s yet another reminder of just how much the NFL is a ‘game of inches,’ and how the narrowest of margins can decide entire seasons. Gotta love it.
