Curling Is Back and It’s Time to Get Hyped

What a whirlwind week it’s been here at SoBros Network – your boy started a new day job, we had the SoBros Comedy Invitational, we’re migrating the web site, launching a shop, and now we have Valentine’s Day. Lost in the shuffle is the fact that the 2018 Winter Olympics are here.

If you’re anything like me, they’re completely consuming your life. Skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, luge, all the fun shit! But, there’s one sport that captures my attention better than maybe any other Olympic activity winter or summer: curling. Why are we fascinated with curling? Folks, I don’t know. But, it is fantastic, and I can’t explain it at all. Yet, every four years, when the Winter Olympics roll around, I’m captivated. Millions of others are, too.

Let me describe curling to you as best as I can, not so much because you need the explanation. But, more so, it’ll probably funny #content.

So, there’s a team of four people (I think), and they just rip these big 50 pound stones down an ice lane and depending on where they land, they get points. Here’s the kicker: there’s a couple of people with brooms that are sweeping the hell out of the ice. Apparently, the effects the speed and direction of said giant stone.

They yell weird things that seem really obscure out of context. But, I’m sure to the people playing, it makes perfect sense. Unless, of course, they’re all in on it. One day the curling universe got together and was like, “let’s mess with these spectators who have no idea what we’re talking about and just yell random things.”

I would never know.

Again, no real clue what any of it means. It’s just the perfect way to relax and unwind. I think it’s the desire to try it that’s so alluring. Every time I see someone curling, I want to go curling.

With the rise in health concerns in most major American sports, I say it’s time we start thinking about becoming a curling country. Saw on the news just the other day that there’s a lot of little hipster curling bars opening up all over the country. That’s a great start, but I don’t want to go to any hipster bars.

Regardless, I hope you’re all enjoying this fine occasion as much as I am. It’s irreverent.
