Spain, Succop, Williamson Headline Class of Impending Titans Free Agents

Alright, folks. It’s officially the offseason, so let’s kick this thing off. Time to start talking about 2018. Up first – NFL free agency. The Tennessee Titans will be able to sign new players on March 14th, just like the rest of the league. Outside of deciding whether or not to use the franchise tag, this will be the first big event as we march towards the 2018 season. But, before we can talk about potential targets,, let’s review the current crop of impending Titans free agents.

Eric Decker – Decker was an absolute bust, but we don’t really know whether it was because of his ability or the offense as a whole. Still, I can’t imagine they’ll keep him around for 2018 making $4M.

Harry Douglas – The previous regime loved Douglas for his presence as a leader in the locker room. But, on the field, he did very little other than incite a literal fight with Aqib Talib.

DaQuan Jones – What a tough year for Jones. The guy was having such a promising year before he gets injured. With new defensive coordinator Dean Pees stating he wants multiple fronts, you can’t help but wonder how they view Jones. The Titans should bring him back.

Josh Kline – In Kline’s mind, he’s thinking he’s a starter somewhere. But, his play for the Titans hasn’t exactly put together a clear case for a fat contract. The interior of the offensive line took a major step back from 2016, and I expect the team will elect to move on from him.

Brice McCain – McCain has been a serviceable corner, but the defensive backfield needs some depth upgrades.

Curtis Riley (RFA) – Riley is a promising young defensive back who has earned an opportunity to reach his potential as a Titan. Unless someone blows him away, I don’t see him going anywhere.

Brian Schwenke – He was drafted by the Titans, left, came back, and proved to be a more than capable backup who can play multiple roles. Not sure how he’ll fit into the new zone blocking scheme, though, so this one’s a bit of mystery to me.

Quinton Spain (RFA) – Spain ought to be priority numero uno this offseason. I know, y’all will jump my ass for it. But, the guy has a ton of talent. He didn’t have as good of a season as the one before, but he’s proven himself as an above-average left guard.

Ryan Succop – I don’t feel like the importance of having a stable kicker is talked about enough. Succop should be an urgent priority, or else the Titans could end up rolling the dice on a rookie.

Erik Walden – Walden was an excellent addition, and should come cheap if the Titans are able to work out a deal.

Brandon Weeden – Really?

Avery Williamson – Williamson hasn’t quite materialized into the stalwart linebacker that we all thought he would a season or two ago. In fact, Wesley Woodyard played better than he did in 2017. That said, he’s still a building block, and unless he wants you to break the piggy bank, I say you bring him back.

If I’m prioritizing deals…

1. Quinton Spain
2. Ryan Succop
3. Erik Walden
4. Avery Williamson
5. DaQuan Jones
