At this point, #Pekka4Vezina is much, MUCH more than a fun little social media campaign among Preds fans on Twitter. The dude is having an unbelievable season. And, as a result, it’s becoming much more logical, credible, and accurate to say that Pekka Rinne is head and shoulders the best goalie in the NHL this season.
#35 got his 40th win of the season last night. He’s now tied with Andrei Vasilevskiy of the Tampa Bay Lightning atop the NHL. But, Rinne has two less losses. He boasts a 2.21 GAA, .931 save percentage – I could go on and on with the stats and the case for #Pekka4Vezina. I could also turn it over to goalie-turned-broadcaster Chris Mason so he can explain how Rinne’s game has improved and what’s made the difference for him this season:
Did you miss the fantastic @cmace30 segment where he broke down how Rinne’s been able to play so well this season? Well check it out! It’s amazing! #Preds pic.twitter.com/t2kE3Y2VtB

Fascinating video. But, if you’re a Preds fan, you likely already know just how strong Rinne’s case for the Vezina is. And, that’s not really why we’re here today, folks.
As a community, we need to stop and take a moment to recognize the work that one C-Mace has put in to making this #Pekka4Vezina thing happen. He is simply relentless in his quest to make sure everyone knows just how deserving Rinne is of the Vezina Trophy. I’ve seen him take down naysayer after naysayer on Twitter – willing to go to war with the entire world if it means the truth be known.
The Talking Preds guys and I were doing some show prep last week, and it came up just how much C-Mace has been beating the drum for the #Pekka4Vezina campaign. We’ve all seen him tirelessly defend #35, taking on all comers with facts and stats to back up his case. And, at this point, the man’s right. If you’re not acknowledging that Rinne is the frontrunner, and deserves this award, then you’re just hung up on a narrative about Vasilevskiy that hasn’t been true for weeks.
But, this sort of movement breeds confidence. I see C-Mace out there on the frontlines of Twitter battle, and I’m more inclined to jump in. I want to fight alongside him for the honor of our goalie! But, most importantly, we just want the NHL and the national media to get it right.
For the most part, things are starting to shift a bit. You’re starting to see more and more articles pop up claiming Rinne as the rightful frontrunner for the award. But, let’s not lose sight of the work C-Mace has put in on the Twitter machine before we got to this point.
Hear, hear, C-Mace!
If all of the Preds fans taking to Twitter to push the shit out of #Pekka4Vezina are soldiers, then there’s no denying that C-Mace is their general. Now, we just need a Civil War era parody account for him…
