In case you missed it, there are potholes all over everywhere in Nashville. I mean, seriously – it’s disgusting. I take out the trash and trip over a pothole. The city is littered with them. I do drive the king of all-terrain vehicles, a 2006 Nissan Altima, to work. But, Elm Hill Pike is like a war zone these days….even for my 2006 Nissan Altima. But, perhaps there’s no road in town worse than 440. Thankfully, we have a champion – WKRN’s Neil Orne – who is taking the war to this ravenous highway that has claimed so many wheels and tires.
Orne has long since been one of Nashville’s “People’s Champions.” I once called him “the James Bond of Nashville media.” And, I said he’d likely be the last man standing in an Anchorman-style street fight between the Nashville media members.
Bottom line is he’s typically a suave, charming, witty “man of the people.” But, now – thanks to all of the damn potholes on 440, the gloves are off. Seems like every day, Orne is taking a jab at the infamous Nashville by-pass.
And, really – our beloved Music City is better for it. For one, we have a champion who is strongly advocating for the improvement of our travel conditions. That’s pretty sick. For another, it’s just quality entertainment. I mean, yeah – there’s a lot going on in Nashville right now – big conversations about transit, people shootin’ each other left and right, the Preds are making their playoff push, the Titans are unveiling new uniforms next week, so on and so forth. But, since the mayor’s side-dong saga has quieted down a bit, I’m willing to say this is easily the best thing happening in the city right now.
Let’s hit some of the highlights of Neil Orne’s Twitter War on 440 (and for the love of God, if you aren’t following the man, follow the man):

I, for one, hope the 440 tweets never stop. You stay classy, Nashville.
