Kids These Days Can’t Even Appreciate a Good Time Capsule – What Is the World Coming To?

Kids these days. Am I right?!?! I don’t see how all of the teachers and staff handle ’em. There just seems to be no sense of real respect for anything anymore. Take this time capsule, for example.

Credit to ABC7 News:

Students at an Oakland school took a trip to the past Friday without the help of a time machine.

They opened a 90 year old time capsule and learned something about themselves in the process.

“Overall meh. It was cool, but not so cool, ” fourth grader Joaquin Ramirez said.

What the hell do you mean, Joaquin?!? NOT SO COOL?!?!?!? I can remember being a kid and being enamored with the idea of a time capsule. It felt as though I was literally sending something into the future. Like, my time capsule was a legitimate vessel from the past to the future. It blew my mind.

I can remember being so captivated by the concept of burying a bin of random items in the ground for people in the future to find, that I would dig up the backyard hoping to find one. Yes, that was stupid – I’m embarrassed to admit that. But, what can you say?

Also, let’s just assess the possibilities here. What if I HAD found a random time capsule in my backyard? Would the people in the past have known I would be the one to find it? If so, you’re talking about potential interdimensional time travel. That would be pretty cool to be apart of.

While the adults can appreciate the school guidebook and newspapers, headlines like “Anti-hanging judge to be Saved by Writ from Sentencing Slayer” just don’t interest kids.

Wait, what? Slayer used to sentence people to things? Like, the band? Is this real? This could be a huge detail overlooked. The potential implications of this are astounding. Are you telling me that Slayer traveled back to the 1920s and became judges? Big if true.

They were hoping to find treasures inside, like money.

Stupid. What kind of kid digs up a hole in the ground expecting to find money? That’s fairy tales. Another example of why I worry about our future as a society. Not only do kids these days have a lack of respect for history, they also have NO grip on reality whatsoever. SMDH.

School officials aren’t sure what they will do with the item. They said they might put them on display at the school or they might check to see if local museums are interested.

How about you just put ’em back in the fucking ground for someone who appreciates time capsules to come along and find ’em?!?!
