Big news today in the world of honest, real journalism. As many of you know by now, I am completely immersed in viral video/meme culture. So, when I first saw the yodeling Walmart boy, I knew the internet was about to blow up. Like most new sensations, I figured it would take hold for a week or two, die out, and then resurface in a year or two. But, that hasn’t been the case. Even I have to admit I was wrong about the longevity and stardom this kid would attain.
He’s skyrocketed all the way to the stage at Coachella. And, I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer – but, I just have to say that there’s something that’s gotten under my skin since this video first started going viral.
He’s not yodeling. That’s called singing, folks. But, it doesn’t seem to matter. So, that’s why I’m here today. I have to drop a truth bomb on you guys….collectively…as a whole…as the internet itself.
THAT. BOY. IS. NOT. YODELING. Hang on – let me put it in a heading in case you didn’t get it and so that it improves the SEO of this article dramatically…
The Yodeling Walmart Boy is not actually yodeling
He’s just singing his heart out like he’s a little Hank Williams…hey…as a matter of fact, you can actually follow him on Instagram as @lilhankwilliams. I told you guys – meme culture is a way of life for me. It’s like the jungles of Vietnam out there and I’m right in the middle of it.
But, this idea that he was yodeling was formed at the early onset of his stardom and just stuck like dog shit to a boot.
It’s, sadly, somewhat reflective of our society in 2018. It’s the sort of thing that gave rise to #fakenews and clickbait. People don’t care about information or details anymore. They read a gimmicky headline and just run with it as if it’s the gospel. That’s how we end up with the folks at Cadbury having to explain that there’s not AIDS in their creme eggs. Or, likewise, why people think eating an avocado will cure cancer. Or, likewise even more, how people end up giving their entire savings away to help a Nigerian prince who will repay them with their own kingdom. Just don’t fall for everything, people. If it doesn’t make sense….if it doesn’t seem real…it probably isn’t.
But, that sort of thing also buries the real news. The rise of #fakenews has given authority figures an incredibly easy out when facing criticism. How many times have you heard our damned President just blatantly say, “FAKE NEWS?”
Yes – calling this boy the “yodeling Walmart boy” is just as bad and serious as those things.
The bottom line here, people, is that you just shouldn’t say something because everyone else is saying it. Do your homework, make informed decisions, and don’t be afraid to learn something new.
And hey – you might be asking, at this very moment, “Stoney – if that’s not yodeling, well then what in the rightful fuck is?” Say no more, fam – I got you.
That is excellent yodeling. That is just downright entertaining, impressive, and relaxing – all three of those things. I hope you’ve all enriched your lives here today.
