Outside-the-box Options for the Titans at #25

The Tennessee Titans have done a masterful job of filling holes in free agency. It’s safe to say they’ve added great depth players at positions of needs. And, that they’ve even upgraded at certain positions. So, one would think it makes it a little easier to pinpoint exactly which position the Titans will select at #25. But, if Jon Robinson has taught us anything – it’s that only Jon Robinson knows what Jon Robinson is going to do. So, despite breaking down what feels like a million potential Titans draft options, there’s still yet another level of outside-the-box options us Titans guys can write about.

Ronnie Harrison

We’ll start with a guy who has popped up on a couple of mock drafts recently. Safety isn’t an immediate position of need for the Titans, but it’s one that could become one in the foreseeable future. Right now, the Titans have their rangy free safety in Kevin Byard. Johnathan Cyprien has that strong safety spot locked down for 2018, but going into 2019, Cyp will have played six seasons. The Titans may want to consider grooming the strong safety of the future to keep with the the rest of that young emerging secondary. Or, hell – just having the depth there would be excellent, too.

The former Crimson Tide safety fits the bill of everything you look for in a strong safety – he’s physical and aggressive and is a stalwart in run support. Top notch athlete, to boot.

Will Hernandez

The Titans have invested a lot in the offensive line this offseason. They’ve re-signed Josh Kline and Quinton Spain, and added free agents Kevin Pamphile and Xavier Su’a-Filo. What was an obvious area of improvement in 2017 suddenly has a lot of depth. So, it would be a bit of a head-scratcher to see them go o-line, especially guard, early in the draft.

That said, do either of the free agent additions inspire long-term confidence? I don’t know. And, what if Spain’s 2017 wasn’t a fluke, and he really is regressing? There are a lot of factors at play here that could lead to the Titans selecting a lineman at #25.

I admittedly haven’t done my homework on Isaiah Wynn yet. But, from what I have done, I like Hernandez a lot. He’s a big, burly mauler that’s going to be reliable in run blocking and has a tremendous work ethic.

D.J. Moore/Christian Kirk

I’ve been in the ‘Titans are fine at receiver’ camp all offseason. Rishard Matthews is one of the most underrated, reliable receivers in the NFL since he’s been a Titan. I love the potential of Corey Davis. Taywan Taylor and Tajae Sharpe both have unique skill sets that add a unique dynamic to the offense. As a whole, this receiving corps has a lot of potential.

But, the Titans flirted with Jordan Matthews, maybe some others that I’m forgetting. Maybe they’re looking to add that fifth cog? At #25, Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk and Maryland’s D.J. Moore would be in play.

Some scouts have called Moore the best receiver in the draft. He’s an excellent combination of size and speed and may as well have played 2017 with tackling cones at quarterback.

Kirk had 3,000 all-purpose yards and 40 touchdowns as an Aggie. Holy shit – talk about production. He’s sturdy, agile, and competitive, with a pedigree as good as any other receiver in this draft.

Either guy would really set this receiving corps over the top.

Trade Up

The Titans only have a couple of truly glaring needs, right? Pass rusher and inside linebacker. So, what do they need those six draft picks for anyway?

If someone – say a Harold Landry or Marcus Davenport – were to slide into the 20s, would it be wise for the Titans to go up and get him? Just spitballin’ here.

Trade Down

#25 is sort of no man’s land. Since the Titans only have six picks this year, would it make sense for them to make a deal to slide back and acquire picks? Well, it depends on the deal. But, I could definitely see a QB-needy team getting antsy when the draft hits #25 and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson is still on the board.

What do you think, Titans fans? What are some unpredictable moves you’d be okay with?
