The 2018 NFL Draft takes place April 26-28 this year, and as it stands, the Tennessee Titans have one first round draft pick. General manager Jon Robinson and first year head coach Mike Vrabel currently hold the 25th overall selection. Over the next few weeks, your boy “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley will be taking a look at some of the prospects who are either rumored to be tied to or who make sense for the Titans.
Okay, this one is a full-blown pipe dream. I’ll give you that. Tremaine Edmunds is the best linebacker in this class according to a lot of scouts. He’s a bona fide blue chipper, and projects to be a top-1o pick tomorrow night. So, you might be wondering why I’m even mentioning him here.
Well, the main reason is that I saw his name pop up on the Titans website under their “names to know” section. So, we’re just doing our due diligence here, the same way the Titans do their due diligence (meeting with Lamar Jackson, for example). Plus, let’s be real here – part of the fun of draft season is that we discuss ALL of the possibilities. No, the Titans wouldn’t get Edmunds at #25, but could they trade up into the top 10-15 to get him? Hell yeah! That’s what we’re here to talk about today.
There’s some debate about whether Edmunds or Georgia’s Roquan Smith is the top linebacker in this class, but it’s likely that both will be gone in the top 12-15 picks. Edmunds has been compared to Brian Urlacher. In case you haven’t heard, folks, Urlacher was good at the football. Edmunds possesses unique size and elite speed and athleticism. He’s versatile – projects to play in any spot in any scheme, and has the production to match his potential.
Now, the tricky thing is….well, the Titans don’t pick until #25. No way Edmunds is there. But, is it possible at all that Jon Robinson and company could look at this year’s draft and this year’s roster and consider Edmunds “the missing piece” on this defense? Likely not, but the Titans definitely don’t have a whole lot of glaring holes on the roster. Would it be worth it to spend a couple of picks to trade up and get a guy like Edmunds?
