Question:
Best WWF European champion of all time?
— Uncle Jesse (@RighteousJesse) May 24, 2018
Answer:
Excellent question – I may end up doing a full article about this because the question fascinated me so much. There have been some bona fide WWE Hall of Famers carry the belt, and you might not realize it given what a clusterfuck the entirety of the Attitude Era really was. It was unified with the Intercontinental Championship in 2002. Most people probably think of names like British Bulldog, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, or Owen Hart.
But, for whatever reason, the two names that popped right into mine were D-Lo Brown and X-Pac. These guys had a nice little back-and-forth throughout the Summer and Fall of 1998. D-Lo held the European Championship for a record four times, tied with William Regal for the most all-time. His reigns totaled to 140 days (4th most all-time). And, the whole angle with the chest protector was pure gold.
So, for those reasons, I’m giving the nod to D-Lo.
Question:
With the NFL Draft coming next year and the recent success with the Preds and all of the watch parties, do you see Nashville legitimately getting the opportunity to have a Summerslam, Rumble or even WM?
— Steven McCash (@MC_Cash75) May 24, 2018
Answer:
While I think the events are only going to get bigger and better for the Music City, I don’t think they have a venue ready and capable of hosting a WrestleMania. I actually wrote about this in greater detail a couple of months ago if you’re interested in taking a look, Steven.
So, if they were to run, say, a SummerSlam, Royal Rumble, or even Survivor Series here, I’d imagine they’d run it in Bridgestone Arena. And, there’s something other than the venue that’s working against Nashville in this scenario. The last several shows I’ve been to (Raw last year and SD in August of 2016), the crowds haven’t been very hot. Now, I heard the last show, the SmackDown before WrestleMania, had a particularly raucous crowd, and the environment at Night of Champions in 2014 was pretty good, so maybe that isn’t the case. But, if I’m WWE and I’m looking at potential suitors for one of our biggest annual events, that might play into my mind. Just spitballin’ here.
It also can’t be a good sign of how WWE feels about Nashville if they pulled Hell in a Cell from the Bridgestone Arena this year in favor of San Antonio. Again, don’t really know the details of what happened there, but certainly curious.
If I had to bet, I’d say we get a Survivor Series or Money in the Bank before anything else. And, I don’t feel like we, as a city, are too far away from that.
Question:
If the SoBros were to book a local wrestling show, what does your card look like?
— Poppa Bear (@SoBroPoppaBear) May 24, 2018
Answer:
Holy shit – could you imagine the scene??? If we were left in charge of putting together a wrestling show in Nashville?!?! It would be a drunken mess. Probably a barrel of fun, though. We’d have all kinds of strange gimmick matches (like the Aluminum Foil Massacre match we had in SHWF), people would fight for Sonic gift cards instead of belts, and it would just be an all around weird night.
But, if I’m answering this for real, I think priority #1 is to book the guys who have helped the brand become what it is today. Then, I’m looking for guys who fit the SoBros brand. Guys like Mance Warner and Joey Janela are practically walking incarnations of the SoBros brand. So, with that in mind, I think I’m slapping a six match card together that looks something like:
Joey Janela vs. Mance Warner
Gunner Miller vs. Brett Ison
Curt Stallion vs. PCO
The Carnies vs. The Gym Nasty Boys
Allie Kat vs. Faye Jackson
Samantha Heights vs. Kylie Rae
Really wanted to throw Stallion vs. A.J. Gray in there…but that match is actually happening on 6/10.
Question:
Alright. Who am I beating?
— Lane by The Lake (@PlainOlLane) May 24, 2018
Answer:
I’m counting this as an official SoBros Mailbag question, and we’re definitely booking Val Venis to put over Lane. In fact, it’s going to be for the SoBros Championship Professional Wrestling Professional Wrestling Heavyweight Championship. We’re puttin’ the strap on Lane to carry the brand.
