The first weekend of August is set to be another huge weekend in Tennessee professional wrestling. The Scenic City Invitational takes place on August 3rd and 4th down in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. And, on August 5th, at The Basement East in Nashville, Southern Underground Pro wraps up the weekend with a raucous matinee named Not Problematic. Indeed, the eyes of Southern independent wrestling will fall squarely upon the Volunteer State that weekend.
If you needn’t read anymore, click here to get your SUP tickets. Between myself and Mose, the SoBros have had a presence at every SUP show since last August, when Joey Janela and Curt Stallion wrestled East Nashville into a fiery blaze. We’ve brought in several friends, and some of them who aren’t even wrestling fans had a great time. That SUP team has worked hard to build a brand that sells itself – it’s gritty, unfiltered action in an environment fueled by booze and passion. It almost doesn’t matter who’s on the show – you hear ‘SUP’ and you know you’re in for a good time.
Now, if you’re still kicking around the idea, and want to see the card, well, your boy’s got you – and, ladies and gentlemen, this is their best card yet.
SUP’s 8/5 Not Problematic Card
Main event, “I Quit” Match: A.J. Gray vs. Curt Stallion – Well, that’s it, folks. Somebody gonna die. This one has been brewing for months, and it all finally comes to a head in August. These are two guys who should be jockeying for position to challenge for Dominic Garrini’s Bonestorm Championship. But, they’re setting aside professionalism for the sake of pure, unadulterated rage. This one’s deep, it’s personal, and there’s a reason it’s the main event. You’ve got two of the greatest athletes in SUP history with a wealth of drama surrounding it. Nashville will be watching this brutality with bated breath.
MJF vs. Warhorse Jake Parnell – The last time MJF showed up in a SUP ring, he struck the beloved don of Southern graps, Papa Hales, much to the dismay of the crowd. He was suspended that day, but for whatever reason, the suspension has been lifted so that he can compete in this match. Parnell will be debuting for SUP on the same weekend that he competes in the Scenic City Invitational. Regardless, Nashville will undoubtedly be rooting to see that prick MJF get live murdered in the ring.
Brett Ison vs. Tripp Cassidy – Cassidy is the last Carnie standing on Ison’s Carnie Killing Tour 2018. The stakes are high as Cassidy provides the last possible opportunity for The Carnies to get a win over Ison.
SUPer Scramble – Mance Warner vs. Craig Mitchell vs. Joey Lynch vs. Kevin Ku vs. Donovan Danhausen vs. Gary Jay – The Pro Wrestling Freedom Heavyweight Title is on the line for this one, a match that is sure to be an absolute banger. A 20 minute time limit, the title can change hands as many times as possible within that 20 minutes, and the last man with the belt goes home with it. I don’t know who thought of this match or why, but my God, thank you.
Kerry Awful vs. O’Shay Edwards – I am sore just typing that. But, Awful wanted him, so Awful got him. Now, Edwards has vowed to “Old Yeller” Awful’s ass. I expect this one to be as physical as they come, and there’s no doubt that Edwards will want to continue the success he’s had in SUP so far this year.
Allie Kat vs. Samantha Heights – Shotzi Blackheart couldn’t make it, so Heights is in. But, you won’t hear any complaints from me. Heights competed in the inaugural Making Towns Classic back in May. That was my first look at her, and I came away impressed, giving her the #3 spot on my MTC Power Rankings. And, of course, you’ve got Allie Kat on the other side, who some have called the heart and soul of SUP. This is going to be a fun one. With this being the first women’s match in SUP’s history, the stakes are high – we’re literally writing history here, folks.
Nick Iggy vs. Effy – Can East Nashville contain this much handsome? It’s doubtful. People are going to need a cigarette after this one.
No New Friends vs. Marko Stunt and Cabana Man Dan – My God, it’s a veritable dream team. Could you find two more popular wrestlers to team together than Stunt and Dan? I can already feel The Basement East shaking with electricity as these guys aim to get their revenge on No New Friends from when Danny Adams and Mike Outlaw double teamed Stunt post-match back in June.
Teddy King vs. Mr. Brickster (sponsored by us) – Like him or not, King was impressive in his SUP debut. Meanwhile, Mr. Brickster has sort of been an overnight success in SUP. King will undoubtedly want to rile up the crowd, but Mr. Brickster has his own contingent of fans in his corner, anyway. This one should be a lot of fun. Oh, and I guess I should mention that we’re sponsoring the match.
That is a stacked card. I don’t know if the braintrust at SUP is trying to make the August show the “SUP WrestleMania,” but intended or not, that’s what it’s become. So, come drink beer with the SoBros, however many of us are still standing after SCI, yell until you lose your voice, and let’s have some motherfucking fun. Buy tickets here.
