“Nature Boy” Brandon Vick and myself got together for another edition of Brandon’s Box Office In Your Mouth, talking all things cinema. This week, we dive right into something we’ve covered at length on this site for the past week: the debacle surrounding MoviePass. Brandon gives us a basic rundown of what’s going on, how the service could actually improve its business model, and ultimately I ask the important question: how long until you’re ready to give up on it?
Then, we talk about the firing of the brain behind the Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn. He was let go for inappropriate tweets dug up from a decade ago, but should he have kept his job? Or, do you think this is just par for the course in 2018?
The Oscars have decided to add a ‘most popular’ category, among other changes they’ve made to the broadcast. Is it enough to save the sinking ratings? Brandon also asks, “is it really going to make you tune in to a three hour broadcast just to see one award?”
We chat about City of Lies being pulled and whether Johnny Depp has lost his drawing power in Hollywood or not. Brandon offers up his quick thoughts on The Meg (full review here), and we go over this week’s DVD/Blu-Ray releases. Brandon takes a stab at predicting what appears to be a wide open weekend at the box office. Finally, we send everyone home happy with Yesteryear’s Finest, a segment in which we each pick a movie from the past for you guys to enjoy in between episodes.
But, don’t take my words for it – LISTEN to the full episode here:
