Breaking Down the First Round Matches for the 2018 Scenic City Invitational

Better late than never, I suppose. Earlier on in the Summer, it looked like our trip to Chattanooga for the 4th annual Scenic City Invitational was in jeopardy. But, after retooling the calendar a bit and given the success of our Lake Season line of tank tops, we were able to throw up a Hail Mary and book our asses for a weekend that has been called “the WrestleMania of the South.”

I wanted to go to my first SCI back in 2016, but I had a bout with poison ivy that had my entire body swollen from head to toe. Seriously, I could hardly move for four days. Had the stuff in BOTH of my eyes, too. So, last year was my first one, and I can definitely say it lived up to the billing. We had a veritable blast. Myself, Mose, Poppa Bear, and Cadbury will stroll into town on Friday, set up shop, and get ready for a weekend of great wrestling and catching up with old friends.

We’re planning on doing a live broadcast or two from the SoBros room at the Best Western Heritage Inn. The SCI itinerary is PACKED, but we’re happy to make time for #content. We won’t be hard to find, so please feel free to stop by and say hey. We do have a few guests lined up already, but if you want to come talk to us, promote your work, or promote your brand, just reach out. We’re always happy to help people who are chasing their dreams the same way we are whether it’s making content together or sharing our experiences with things like branding, marketing, social media, business structure, or any of that stuff.

I also want to mention that we will have some inventory from the SoBros Shop on hand for purchase.

But, if you’re still contemplating the trip to Chattanooga for the weekend, let’s just take a look at this absolutely bat shit crazy card for night one.

Scenic City Invitational Night One

  • Cain Justice vs. Gary Jay
  • Nick Gage vs. Kerry Awful
  • Curt Stallion vs. Joey Lynch
  • PCO vs. Cyrus The Destroyer
  • Corey Hollis vs. Ike Cross
  • Mance Warner vs. Fred Yehi
  • Darius Lockhart vs. Warhorse Jake Parnell
  • A.J. Gray vs. 2 Cold Scorpio

This is going to be a fun night of wrestling, folks. You look at that card, and there’s no bathroom break on it. Good luck holding it in or you’re going to miss out. Every year, the SCI brain trust does an excellent job of presenting fresh match-ups that we haven’t already seen elsewhere on the indy wrestling scene.

It’s a pretty interesting thing when you ask someone which of these matches they’re looking forward to the most, and everyone seems to have a different answer. Personally, I’m going with the Lynch-Stallion contest as my most anticipated bout. But, Warner-Yehi is right up there with it. I haven’t seen a whole lot of people talking about PCO-Cyrus, but that is going to be one hell of a hoss fight. I’m getting bruised just thinking about it.

Pretty cool to see Awful getting a crack at Gage, who some have called the “King of Independent Wrestling” right now. The Carnies have become the darlings of Tennessee wrestling, so it’s nice to see that rewarded with such a big match.

Same goes for A.J. Gray, really – the guy’s having a phenomenal year, and he’s wrestling a true legend of the 90s in 2 Cold Scorpio. You can’t make this up. SCI just seems to outdo itself every single year. The only people I haven’t seen yet are Cross and Lockhart. But, that’s always one of the underrated fun parts of an indy show – discovering new talent, if you will.

This isn’t even factoring in night two of the tournament or the SCI Futures Showcase scheduled for Saturday afternoon, -OR- the SUP show on Sunday.

It’s the greatest wrestling weekend in Tennessee, ladies and gentlemen, and your boy is fired up.
