I Do Not Miss Going to Hardcore Shows

Little known fact about “Big Natural” Stoney Keeley. I actually used to frequent hardcore shows back in my day. I figure some of you find that odd….I’ve had two day jobs at which all of my co-workers seemed to think I’m a redneck. I don’t know – I guess I give off a bit of redneck vibes. But, there’s far more redneck out there than Stoney Keeley. I can assure you of that.

But, man – I used to hit up all the big time shows that came through Rocketown. Every Time I Die, Bleeding Through, The Chariot – you name it. If there was a hardcore show going on from 2004-2006ish, I was there. Seeing this clip gave me flashbacks like what I imagine Vietnam veterans have.

Okay, that’s dramatic, but you get what I’m saying.

As usual, here’s a link in case Instagram takes this video down.

Absolutely ELECTRIC

Even when I was a younger man (I’m 32), I shied away from all that shit. I was the dude sitting calmly with my back against the wall taking it all in. And, you know what? I came out of that period of my life relatively unscathed. Didn’t have to worry about taking a stray fist to the dome. Didn’t have to worry about getting so sweaty I had to take a shower after the show. It was just delightful.

So, when I see stuff like this, I look back upon those days, and I let out a deep sigh of relief and say, “Stoney, you were wise beyond your years…”

The only real regret I have from my hardcore show heyday was letting that girl from Knoxville sit on my shoulders to watch Underoath. I really thought she was into me, but as it turns out, she was simply using me for my bullish strength and broad shoulders that are perfect for sitting on.

That bitch.
