The SoBros Present: Fall Movie Night

‘Tis the season, folks! Well…actually….it’s still pretty damn hot outside here in Nashville, Tennessee. But, the larger point here is that cooler weather is on the way. A couple of weeks ago, I had you guys dust off the old fall playlist. Today, we’re talking with four other SoBros about their favorite fall movies. A distinction of note: we are excluding Halloween/horror movies, as that will be a separate column in due time! For now, you can set up a nice little fall movie night based on our suggestions. LFG!

My Suggestions

I’m not a big horror movie guy, but I do like watching the classics come Halloween season. But, before we get into that, and I’m sure we will revisit our favorite Halloween movies again in 2018, I always default to two movies that just remind me of the fall: The Departed and Dead Poets Society. Robin Williams is a heavy-hitter in DPS (as those of us who religiously follow the movie call it (not really, I just made that up)). Plus, fun fact: DPS is loosely based on MBA right here in Nashville. The Departed is more or less because it actually came out in October of 2006. That was an….interesting….time in my life, so I always think back to it this time of year.

Cadbury’s Suggestions

When I think of The Goonies, I get the Fall feeling. I’d say Brokeback Mountain, but can’t recall what season they were herding the sheep. You said excluding horror movies….does Casper count?

Mose’s Suggestions

Rushmore, October Sky, Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Poppa Bear’s Suggestions

Remember the Titans…see, I think of mostly football movies. Rudy, Varsity Blues, Friday Night Lights – stuff like that, but also A River Runs Through It……and The Legend of Bagger Vance…which I’m pretty sure takes place in the summer, but seems like a fall movie to me.

Rooster’s Suggestions

Excluding horror movies: Practical Magic, Remember the Titans, Good Will Hunting. Fly Away Home could be another one! I don’t know if any of you have seen You’ve Got Mail, but I made my boyfriend watch it not too long ago and he actually liked it. Tom Hanks makes everything great and it’s sooo nostalgic. The whole movie is the late 90s summed up.

So, if you want that in list format:

  • A River Runs Through It
  • Brokeback Mountain
  • Casper
  • Dead Poets Society
  • The Departed
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox
  • Fly Away Home
  • Friday Night Lights
  • Good Will Hunting
  • The Goonies
  • The Legend of Bagger Vance
  • October Sky
  • Practical Magic
  • Remember the Titans
  • Rudy
  • Rushmore
  • Varsity Blues
  • You’ve Got Mail

Yeah, that might take you a while to get through, but thankfully, you have plenty of time to work on it. Let us know which SoBro nailed it.
