Rishard Matthews quit on the Tennessee Titans. Is anyone actually questioning that at this point? I mean, that’s the narrative, and it probably should be, no? He asked for his release because he wasn’t happy with his role in the offense, the Titans granted him his release, and here we are.
Well, Matthews took to Instagram to vent a bit and answer a few fan questions yesterday.

Yeah, okay. Not sure what’s going to change between now and 2019, but what do I know?
The Titans wanted the young guys in there? Buddy, it’s your job to stave off the young guys. There’s a whole new crop of young guys coming in every year who are a threat to your job. You’re supposed to be the bar – you’re supposed to be so good that your coaches can’t deny you. I can’t imagine this coaching staff simply saying, “we want the young guys in there.”
And, let’s not forget – that offense still ran through Delanie Walker. It ain’t like he’s a spring chicken. So, I don’t buy it. Sounds like bullshit to me. That’s why people are saying Matthews quit on the team…because there’s no other justification for it.
Just say you still think you have a big payday in you. Just say that you thought you’d be better served in a different offense where you felt you could produce more.
I don’t know. I’m not in the room – all I have to go off of is headlines…but geeeeez, this story just keeps getting worse.
This is a really interesting thing to me, because the Titans that were asked about Matthews’ departure from the team were all pretty supportive of him. But, a lot of the media is pretty much blasting the guy for quitting. I obviously can’t say what the inside of the Titans locker room is like, so I don’t want to insinuate that anyone was putting on a front.
But, I can damn sure say that if I was a member of that Titans offense, I would’ve been pissed about this. I would certainly think that #18 quit on the team.
I once said I’d rather have Matthews than Jarvis Landry. So, you know I don’t think his play is a real issue. And, I’ve seen some people suggest that Matthews is being blackballed because of the anthem protests, but that is ludicrous. The issue is that Matthews is apparently quietly a “baggage guy.”
Reports surfaced after his departure that there were apparently some issues like this going on behind the scenes for quite some time. Some Titans pundits going as far as to say that they weren’t surprised Matthews ultimately quit the team. There were even some rumblings about shit like this when he was with the Miami Dolphins.
He worked out with the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and the New York Jets since, and he still doesn’t have a contract.
Gee – I wonder why.
