The Bears are Super Bowl contenders
It’s tough to put away a rival, but not only did the Bears do it, they officially buried the season of the Green Bay Packers. They’ve been good all season long, but it’s time we put them into the discussion of legitimate Super Bowl contenders. We’re talking about one of the best, most complete, defenses in the entire NFL. That’s something that’s going to travel well in the postseason, if they even have to travel. There’s a chance they end up with home field advantage, or playing their only away game in the NFC Championship. Lest we forget, this defense completely stalled the Los Angeles Rams offense that looked nearly impossible to stop earlier in the season. I’d love to see another NFC Championship between the Bears and Saints.
Payton-Brees move to #2 winningest coach-QB duo
Crazy – Sean Payton and Drew Brees have won 117 regular season games together. With Monday night’s win over the Carolina Panthers, they moved ahead of Don Shula and Dan Marino. Now, they only have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick to catch. With 205 wins, good luck with that one guys.
Anthony Lynn, ‘Coach of the Year?’
At this point in the season, the Chargers look like the most complete team in the AFC, maybe the NFL if you want to debate Chargers vs. Saints. By the way, I’m feeling pretty good about my preseason Chargers-Saints Super Bowl prediction again. But, the work Lynn and company have done in Los Angeles is uncanny. Philip Rivers is having the most underrated season I can recall in a long time. The team is winning games in bunches. By all accounts, Lynn is a guy who can effectively communicate with today’s football player. He seems to have put everything together into one hell of a season – I’d have to say he’s the front runner for coach of the year right now. Shout out to Frank Reich too. This is going to be an interesting discussion.
Nick Foles keeps winning
When Carson Wentz was announced as inactive for Sunday night’s game, the line shot up something like eight points in favor of the Rams. All Foles did was go out there and win. How long are we going to keep laughing at the guy? How long is he going to be relegated to backup? This dude is going to get a shot to start somewhere when his time in Philly comes to a close, and he’s proven that he’s a guy you can win with. Good for him.
Concern in New England
Man, all of a sudden, you look at the AFC standings and the Patriots are 9-5 and could possibly play during wild card weekend. MY GOD THE HUMANITY! Is this a sign of the end of the world? Or, will the Pats run the table, end up 11-5 and end up playing in the Super Bowl? Time will tell.
Division races
We have some pretty interesting divisional races heading into the final two weeks of the season. The AFC North is tight between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. If either of those teams slip up, the other is likely taking the division and getting a home game in the playoffs. The Chiefs and Chargers are duking it out for the AFC West and likely home field advantage in the AFC playoffs. Then, you have the NFC East, where the Dallas Cowboys currently lead with a record of 8-6. The Eagles and R-Words are both right behind them at 7-7, so this should be a pretty interesting finish. Combine that with both conferences having wide open wild card races and this should be the most fun finish to a season that we’ve had in a while.

There’s next to nothing the dude can do to lose it at this point, in my opinion.

Guy has a legitimate shot at 50 touchdowns, and just keeps making circus play after circus play. If you take sentimentality out of it, Mahomes is objectively the best player in football. I know everyone wants to give Drew Brees the award because he doesn’t have one, but man – how can you reasonably keep this trophy out of Mahomes’ hands at this point?
