Packers fire McCarthy
The Green Bay Packers have been weird this season. An awful lot of folks seem to think that Aaron Rodgers has been playing uninspired football (putting it kindly) because he’s ready for a coaching change. We’ll see if he comes out gangbusters on Sunday, but I don’t know – I just find it hard to believe that a competitor of his ilk can be comfortable tanking. It reminds me a lot of Andy Reid in Philadelphia – the relationship had just grown stale. I love the rumors of McCarthy going to the Browns, but as for the Packers, I just don’t know who they’re going to get who’s more capable of righting the ship than McCarthy.
Kareem Hunt cut
Kareem Hunt fucked up – domestic violence. Video surfaced, and the Chiefs made the right call to cut him. Per ESPN, the league is looking at three different incidents in order to determine appropriate punishment for Hunt, but it seems likely he’s going to be suspended well into the 2019 season.
Rams clinch the NFC West
These Los Angeles Rams are something else, man. Really a fun team to watch. Todd Gurley and Jared Goff just lighting up scoreboards. Aaron Donald lighting up quarterbacks. They were the first team to clinch their division after they beat the Detroit Lions, and right now, look like the favorites to win the Super Bowl.
Cowboys stun the Saints
That Cowboys defense has been stifling, but they may have painted their masterpiece on Thursday night against the New Orleans Saints. It saved them from being in a three-way hodgepodge with Washington and Philadelphia this week, and it also made them look like the best team in the division. If they can beat the Saints, who knows how far this Cowboys team can go in the NFC?
Lamar Jackson makes the Ravens a playoff team
That’s right. I said it. The Ravens are better off rolling with Jackson than they are Joe Flacco right now. Since Jackson took over, the Ravens are leading the league in rushing and time of possession. That’s insane. But, more so, they’re starting to take firm command of that second wild card in the AFC. They’re a game ahead of a jumbled up pack of 6-6 mediocrity, but if they keep rolling the way they are, they will definitively earn a playoff spot.
Adrian Peterson ties Jim Brown
Peterson broke off a 90-yard touchdown run on Monday Night Football, and so tied NFL legend Jim Brown on the all-time rushing touchdowns list. Peterson has truly been one of those generational talents at the position and is starting to take his rightful place among the pantheon of NFL legends.
Desperate Eagles still alive
That Eagles offense sure looked like the explosive offense that won the Eagles a Super Bowl a season ago. They had to beat Washington, and they did just that – the 28-13 win really jumbles up the NFC East, where even the 4-8 Giants are still in the hunt. The Eagles are only a game behind Dallas, and they’ll get to play them next week. This team is still very much alive in the NFC East.
Chargers make a statement
The Los Angeles Chargers went into Pittsburgh and bested the Steelers 33-30 on Sunday Night Football. This team sure didn’t get off to the slow start they did a season ago. They’re now 9-3 – their only losses coming to the Chiefs, Rams, and Broncos. Those are good football teams, folks. Everyone’s been talking about the Chiefs, Pats, and Steelers all season, but Sunday night was the Chargers stepping out and making it known they are a legitimate contender to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.
