MARY POPPINS RETURNS
3 out of 5 stars
As a new generation’s fantastical nanny, Emily Blunt is as good as it gets as she floats down upon us to embrace what cannot be explained with a grandiose performance. And having Lin-Manuel Miranda as your dancing partner is a gift that keeps on giving. This satisfying sequel lives and breathes magic, and director Rob Marshall has an abundance of it. He lets the splendor and pure joy of Mary Poppins spill over on to familiar territory – cherishing its predecessor while cranking out the charm for audiences to be lured once more. You won’t be completely swept away, but its imagination is infectious as the impossible is always possible.
