Podcast: The Story Behind Achy Breaky Heart, the Miracle SUP Show

On the anniversary of the fabled event, “The General” John Mosley sits down with RighteousJesse to relive the supposedly “cursed” Southern Underground Pro (SUP) Achy Breaky Heart show from February of 2018.

A myriad of issues caused booking changes the day (if it even was a full day) before the event was set to take place at The Basement East last February. Jesse discusses the stress that caused and what the SUP team did to overcome it all.

But, for all the chaos leading up to it, an awful lot of good came out of this. In fact, Mose considers it his favorite SUP show to date.

We learned about the return of Slutty Kat, and what that rivalry with Allie Kat nearly turned into. Mose and Jesse get into detail about Jesse’s brutal match with Brett Ison. The show marked the debuts of Marko Stunt, Craig Mitchell, and Cabana Man Dan, all of whom have become SUP staples. And, the team theorizes whether or not this show created the moment that launched Ison’s big ‘fuck you’ year of dominance.

There’s plenty of Uncle Byff love, and the team also mentions Angelus Layne and the role she played in making SUP what it is today, including the Last Person Standing match she had with Kevin Ku at this show.

All this and a deep look into where this show stands in the hearts of those closely involved with it.
