The first wave of NFL free agency is in the books, so it’s time to start shifting our gaze to the NFL Draft. The Tennessee Titans need a whole new platoon of play-makers heading into the 2019 season, and it looks like they’re at least kicking the tires on Deebo Samuel, an exciting wide receiver prospect out of South Carolina.
According to an NFL.com report, the Titans are set to meet with South Carolina wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
While the Gamecocks host their pro day on Thursday, it is unclear as to whether the Titans will meet with him there, or have him make the trip into Nashville.
The 6-foot, 210-pounder was a big force over 12 games, reeling in 62 receptions for 822 yards and 11 touchdowns.
On his college career, Samuel totaled 148 receptions for 2,076 yards and 16 touchdowns. He was also functional in the run game, recording 25 carries for 154 yards and seven touchdowns.
Samuel saw action on 42 kickoff returns for 1,219 yards and four touchdowns as well.
No other way to say it – Samuel is a weapon. That’s W-E-A-P-O-N!
The dynamic that Samuel would bring to the Titans offense is exactly what they need. Elite speed and electric play-making ability. He can do it all, line up anywhere on the field, return kicks/punts, whatever. He’s a big time YAC guy and is deceptively tough to bring down.
If not for a broken leg and some hamstring issues throughout his career, Samuel might be a lock for the first round. But, that injury history calls into question his durability. I highly doubt he’s going to be a first round pick. It’s more likely he goes somewhere in the second or third round. But, he could prove to be a valuable investment in that spot.
It’s worth noting that Samuel is also set to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers.
