Jake Parnell is a guy that needs no introduction. The Warhorse has been tearing shit up (with his hooves) for a while now. His rivalry with Gary Jay has caught the attention of just about everyone in independent wrestling. The two consistently beat the shit out of each other but every match feels fresh which says a lot about both those dudes. I recently caught up with Jake to talk about what he’s got in store for the rest of 2019.
Mose: Diving right in, what was ‘it’ that got you into professional wrestling?
Warhorse: The sport of it all. Fighting your way to the top to call yourself a champion is what drives me to work hard.
M: I just recently watched your ladder match with Jake Lander at Zero1 last month. Crazy, fucking match. What were you thinking during and how did it feel to pull that title down after everything y’all did to each other?
WH: If anyone was going to beat me in that setting, it’s Landers. We have had a few matches against one another so I knew he was more than capable of grabbing the championship. He was too focused on putting me away and it caused him to get caught up on the wrong end of a ladder outside the ring. After I grabbed the Championship, I knew I won the war, but now I’m ready to challenge for the Zero1 USA Heavyweight Championship. There are no Junior heavyweights in Zero1 that I haven’t defeated, and now it’s time to prove who the number one wrestler in the company is.
M: Your history with Gary Jay is almost mythological at this point. We know you two will square off at Family Reunion (on April 4th) during Wrestlemania weekend. What can we expect other than utter brutality?
WH: I don’t want to see him walk out of the ring, and I will do everything I can to doublestomp him straight into the canvas.
M: You’ve got title defenses and a big time match during Mania weekend already booked this year, but are there any opponents you’re aching to square off with?
WH: I want to bring the fight to Nick Gage. Raw Horsepower hasn’t let me down yet, now its time to fight the King.
M: If you’re not wrestling you seem to be hitting your personal gym. Can you give us a quick Warhorse Workout?
WH: First I warm up with a 1 mile run. Then I’ll hit free weights for about 2 hours, using heavy weight for lower rep ranges. To finish up, I’ll do a boxing regiment on the heavy bag for about 20 minutes, so my weight training is book ended with cardio.
All of this aside, I’m legit a ‘Heavy Metal As Fuck Super Fan of The Warhorse and His Raw Horsepower.” I love his style and that sweet ass jacket. After getting to talk to him a little bit at Paradigm Wrestling, I was happy to find out he’s a super cool dude who can be funny as hell when so inclined. Thanks for the time, Jake! We can’t wait to see you and Gary throw the fuck down at Family Reunion.
