Spring is here, and with it brings a brand new season of action-packed road racing. As the MotoAmerica series enters its fifth season of racing in the U.S., the anticipation is running high!
With a total of five classes, across a wide variety of motorcycle manufacturers and categories, this year is promising to be full of drama, excitement, and new possibilities for this series.
For the first time in history, U.S. road racing will now be available across multiple channels on network TV, as well as MotoAmerica’s own live streaming subscription service. Of course, the best option is always to be at the track in person, but if for some ridiculous reason you can’t make it to a race, be sure to tune in on Fox Sports 2, NBC Sports, or sign up for the MotoAmerica Live+ service!
Here’s a quick look at the 2019 race schedule:
April 5-7 Road Atlanta (Georgia)
April 12-14 Circuit of the Americas (Texas)
May 4-5 VIR Raceway (Virginia)
May 31-Jun 3rd Road America (Wisconsin)
Jun 15-16 Utah Motorsports Campus (Utah)
July 12-14 WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca (California)
August 10-11 Sonoma Raceway (California)
August 23-25 Pittsburgh International Race Complex (Pennsylvania)
September 7-8 New Jersey Motorsports Park (New Jersey)
September 20-22 Barber Motorports Complex (Alabama)
I have a strong feeling this year’s Superbike class will be one of the most intense seasons we’ve seen in decades.
Cameron Beaubier returns aboard his trusty Monster Energy Graves Yamaha Racing YZF-R1 to defend his 2018 title. Teammate Garrett Gerloff will be right alongside looking to claim his stake in the running for the premiere class championship.
Returning to the always competitive Yoshimura Suzuki Racing GSX-R1000, Toni Elias looks to reclaim the crown that was taken by Beaubier in 2018. Of course, they’ll all be on the lookout for Elias’ new teammate, Josh Herrin, who joined the factory Suzuki effort after several successful, dedicated years with Yamaha.
Herrin gave the series a tremendous performance effort throughout the 2018 season, as he worked his way up the championship standings onboard the Attack Performance YZF-R1. His dedication to staying active and entertaining throughout various social media outlets has allowed the Suzuki rider to bring a solid following to the series and sport during the offseason.
A few wild cards that are likely to break up the Factory team dominance are JD Beach stepping up to the Superbike class, Kyle Wyman aboard the super-impressive Ducati Panigale V4R, and returning speed-demon Mathew Scholtz.
We hope you tune in this weekend for the season opener, and we’ll do our best to keep you informed as the series progresses! For further information about MotoAmerica, check out their website at https://motoamerica.com/
