The ebbs and flows of free agency have subsided. For the Tennessee Titans, we pretty much know what this roster is going to look like heading into next week’s NFL Draft. So, let me offer up my final list of positions the Titans definitely need to address.
Pass rusher
I still say getting some help in the pass rush should be priority numero uno next week. This year’s draft is loaded with pass rush talent, so the Titans should get an immediate play maker at #19…especially if a quarterback or receiver needy team decides to reach for someone. I like the addition of Cameron Wake, but he’s not getting any younger. They need someone they can pair with Harold Landry for forever.
Right guard
Well…y’all let Quinton Spain go. Cutting Josh Kline was the surprise of the offseason so far. It may have been savvy of Jon Robinson, but it does leave a massive question mark at right guard. Are they going to slide Jack Conklin over and slot Dennis Kelly at right tackle? That seems to be one of the prevailing fan theories at this point, but seems a little unlikely to me. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the team draft an interior offensive lineman early on (big fan of Cody Ford myself).
Defensive line
We saw just how shallow the defensive line depth is when Jurrell Casey went down with a season ending injury last year. It’s a position they need to address, and could very well address in the first round. An awful lot of folks are mocking Clemson’s Christian Wilkins to the Titans.
Play-maker
I don’t think it makes a whole lot of sense for the Titans to go tight end in the first round, but the bottom line is that the Titans need mismatch guys. If that’s Noah Fant or T.J. Hockenson, so be it. If it’s a wide receiver like Deebo Samuel or Parris Campbell in the second round, so be it. They just need a guy who can win battles and make plays.
Center
The Titans offensive line, as a whole, had a down year last year. But, particularly, they struggled along the interior. The Titans could draft a G/C type of interior lineman to be the heir apparent to Ben Jones. Either way, it’s something that needs addressing.
*As it stands, the Titans will have six picks in this year’s draft:
- 1st round – 19th overall
- 2nd round – 51st overall
- 3rd round – 82nd overall
- 4th round – 121st overall
- 5th round – 157th overall
- 6th round – 188th overall
