“Bonestorm Brett is a Different Kind of Psychotic.”

207 days. Brett Ison has held the Bonestorm Title for 207 days. Across those 207 days, he’s defended his title against names like Nick Gage, B-Boy, O’Shay Edwards and most recently James Drake in a legit brawl. I say that because we saw something in that match with Drake that we haven’t really seen across those 207 days…Brett got beat up a bit.

Don’t get me wrong – every single one of those opponents mentioned brought the fight to Brett, but there was something different about the Drake fight. Vicious chops and a moonsault that sounded like a shotgun exploding come to mind right away. Yeah, he took a beating, but the lesson I took away was Brett did what he’s been doing from the jump. He overcame.

Now he’s facing an opponent that’s been on a legit tear the last year or so in Allie Kat. I got the chance to sit down with Brett and really see where his head is at not only with Sunday’s matchup but everything else that’s on the plate of The Pitbull.

Mose: Sunday’s match is one we’ve wanted to see for so, so long at The Basement East. What are your thoughts on Allie and her success under the SUP banner?

Brett: Allie Kat… “The heart and soul of SUP” I do not disagree with that nickname for her. Her run has been nothing short of spectacular at SUP with wins over psychopaths like Joshua Bishop and Kevin Ku. I’m not taking anything away from them, but Bonestorm Brett is a different type of psychotic.

I did go out of my way to watch her match at the Midwest Mixtape. To see what you have against Impact’s Jordynne Grace. Impressive. She showed a mean streak.

M: Speaking of the Midwest Mixtape, how was your trip and what were your thoughts on your match?

B: The trip was cool. Got to be in a car with people I enjoy as human beings and co workers.

The match was great – we went in and showed the Midwest and Glory Pro “We ain’t nothing to fuck with,” showed why we were the day ones, why we are the pillars of SUP, and why we’ve earned everything we have. The violent trio has gotten great feedback both times we’ve teamed. We are three men that understand what has to be done.

M: Still no news on you being at SCI. Have you heard anything from the Scenic City crew?

B: Nothing besides the reply after I sent shots at them after the Scenic City Showdown. They replied “We see you.” I don’t think you do. If so, Hensley would have gotten into the ring like he did before my match and gave me a shot in front of everyone, but he didn’t. I really don’t think they want me showing up to SCI weekend. I’ll just fuck the venue and the talent up to get my point across. I’ll just take someones invite.

M: Was Gary Jay everything you expected him to be?

B: Yes. I had been told what to expect and he lived up to every single bit of it. I would really like to have it on mine or his turf. We both said we would do it again, but hopefully in front of a crowd that’s not tired from 10 other matches before us.

Writer’s note: I reached out to Dylan Hales for a comment on Brett’s status for SCI. Here is his official statement:

“Brett Ison is an incredible wrestler and one of the most terrifying men in pro wrestling.  But if I was him, I would be maintaining my focus on his Bonestorm Title defense Sunday against Allie Kat.  Allie is tournament tested, having won the Making Towns Classic in May.  She’s traveling all over the place and is one of the most improved wrestlers on the scene today.  Overlooking her would be a huge mistake.”

I’ve gotta say the closer we get to Sunday, the bigger this match feels. Allie is a real contender with impressive wins inside and out of SUP. No doubt Sunday is gonna be a huge day for her win or lose. For Brett, it’s just gonna be another day. 207…and counting.
