Jaden Newman answers to a lot of names. He’s El Numero Uno. He’s Ichiban. He’s the Uncrowned King of the Scenic City. Simply put – he’s #1.
He’s also been tearing it up all over the damn place. We’ve seen Jaden really hit that next level the last few months which has included competing in The Young Lions Cup, putting on a couple of legit bangers at SUP, beating a certified BAMF in Jake Parnell AND announced as an SCI entrant. It’s shaping up to be a career year for Jaden and we were able to catch up with him in the midst of all this success.
Mose: So much to talk about, but let’s start with you getting the invite to train at The Wrestle Factory for a Master Class Weekend, then the Chikara Young Lions Cup. Tell us a little bit about that experience and what it meant to you getting the love from Mike Quackenbush.
Jaden: Meeting Quackenbush has been one of the best things to happen to me. The man has to be hands down the smartest when it comes to our craft.
Master Class Weekend back in February was an experience like none other. Getting to learn from the likes of Ophidian, Rory Gulak, Shane Hawke, Jimmy Rave, Solo Darling, and of course Mike Quackenbush was one of the coolest things not only in wrestling but in life I could’ve experienced. It helped me grow as a performer in all aspects, so it was extremely cool to then be able to go back three weeks later and enter the Young Lions Cup and giving Chikara the proper introduction of El Numero UNO, ICHIBAN, Number ONE Jaden Newman.
Despite not making it to the finals, I’m happy to have been invited to be apart of something so prestigious and add my name to long list of greats who have came through and participated all while making my home state proud.
M: If that wasn’t enough we’ve seen you cross paths with Manders AND Craig Mitchell at Southern Underground Pro. Your match with Craig hasn’t been talked about enough, in my opinion. If you had to choose, would you rather get another crack at Craig or get your hands on Manders?
1: As much of an adrenaline rush I got fighting Craig, my sights are set on Manders at the moment.. and I’ll leave it at that. When it’s all said and done, I’ll get my victory in SUP and then beat that prick’s ass.
M: You’re fresh off a knockdown, drag out fight win over Jake Parnell which led to you being announced as an official entrant at SCI this year. I know you’ve worked your ass off, but at any point has this started to feel almost surreal?
1: Jake is one of the best opponents I’ve had. Legitimately gave me a fight I’ve been craving for. He’s a hell of a man and I can’t wait to do it all again.
The moment I pulled out that graphic all I could do was cry. It was 5 years of hard work I’ve put in paying off. Not only do I get to represent Chattanooga in the biggest tournament of the southeast at my old high school, but I also get to celebrate my 5 year anniversary as a professional wrestler as well all while being around the people who have supported me since the beginning. It’s still surreal to me.
M: Lastly, we know you and AC Mack will meet in the First Round of SCI in August. What should be expect from this matchup?
1: Expect to see Jaden Newman shift into another gear.. I ain’t coming to play at SCI. This is my moment to knock off an accomplishment I’ve wanted for a long time and I’ll be damned if it’s taken away from me.
You thought Mack and I at SUP’s “What Could Possibly Go Right” was one to watch? Just wait..
A big thank you to Jaden for the time. All of us at SoBros HQ are excited to see what he has up his sleeve for the rest of 2019. Be sure to check him out this Saturday, May 11 for TWE Chattanooga in Red Bank, TN and get ready for his matchup with Jeremy Wyatt on June 2 when SUP presents Those Who Fear Tomorrow.
