An Evening at Old Line Nashville’s Movie Monday

Old Line Nashville could get lost in all of the different bars that are lined up shoulder-to-shoulder on Demonbreun Street, but there’s no way I’m going to let that happen. Why? Because of MOVIE MONDAYS!

It’s become a weekly thing there that kicked off back in February, and the movies they show ain’t no slouches either. Their first one was I Love You, Man, and since then they have shown Wonder Woman, Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born (2018), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Glass. Oh, and did I mention it’s FREE?!

There was no question that I had to see this for myself. So my girlfriend and I went last Monday (5/13) to catch Bumblebee. While I have already seen it, she hadn’t – and I was game for a repeat viewing. So what a treat this was going to be for the both of us.

We arrived about half an hour before the 8PM showtime. One of the true highlights is the drink specials. I got a whiskey and coke and two beers for $11. My girlfriend got three glasses of wine for only $6! You’re going home happy even if you hate the movie with prices like that. With a few minutes to spare, the music goes silent, the lights turned down and the big screen projector gets fired up. And right when you think it couldn’t get any better – the fine folks at Old Line hand out free popcorn to the audience. No complaints there.

We were lucky in the sense that weather was on our side. They had the garage door open and it wasn’t hot or humid. The conditions were just right. My one big suggestion would be to see a movie you’ve already seen before. Keep in mind, it’s still a bar and not everyone gives a shit about what’s playing on the big screen. Unless you’re blessed with a small crowd like we had.

It’s an all-around fun thing to do on a weeknight. We asked the bartender if it’s been a success and he said it’s hit-or-miss. Which makes sense when you’re offering it every Monday, and it’s also a Monday – a day when most are probably recovering from something. On this specific night, there were probably about seven people there for the movie, and it felt like everyone enjoyed this relaxing movie night. Definitely not a bad way to get the week started.

Visit their Instagram for more information on all of their weekly events including what’s coming up for their Movie Mondays! And below you can read my my initial review and rating for Bumblebee when it first came out late last year.

BUMBLEBEE

4 OUT OF 5 STARS

There’s such awe in practically every aspect of this origin adventure. It’s fun and emotional, while the monstrous machine action still plays its knockabout part. Replacing Michael Bay with Steven Knight as director pays off big time as he delivers a relatable, funny story about friendship that grooves to the 80’s best tunes. Hailee Steinfeld’s stellar performance is the heart of it all with the biggest transformation being between her and her yellow soldier on wheels reclaiming what they thought they’d never get back. A Transformers movie that gets you teary-eyed? Believe it.
