PPW: Live Through This Recap

Paradigm Pro Wrestling (PPW) put together one of their craziest cards this past Friday and the SoBros Wrasslin’ team was not gonna miss it. We loaded up on a Gin Friday and headed to Jeffersonville, Indiana to root on my guy Brett Ison and take in the surefire insanity that was aptly titled ‘Live Through This.’

2/3 Falls Match: Lexus Montez vs. Mike Outlaw- The hard hitting started right away with these two. Mike Outlaw was fired up for this one leading to an early 1-fall lead. Outlaw is crazy underrated with Stoney mentioning on more than one occasion “Man, I like Mike Outlaw.” Not to be outdone, Lexus was able to fire up his offense and get back to back falls to secure a super hard fought victory.

Corey Storm vs. Tootie Lynn- Really enjoyed what these two brought. I had only seen a couple Storm matches and this was my first time seeing Tootie, meaning I wasn’t sure what to expect. We got some kick ass offense out of both, with it looking like either was gonna leave The Arena with a win. In the end, Storm gets the dub. But, I’m absolutely going to be keeping up with these two moving forward.

Street Fight: John Wayne Murdoch vs. Ron Mathis- It took about .00003234 seconds for Mathis to start bleeding, so this was everything we wanted it to be. The two used just about everything in the venue to beat on each other. At one point, a tiki torch was brought out by JWM and just as it connected to Mathis the oil container that sits on the top shot right by us like a bullet. Stoney hid behind me and Brett Ison/Dominic Garrini had to use their incredible reaction time to duck.

From here, the two smashed doors, chairs, and pool noodles to attempt murder on one another. In the end, John Wayne Murdoch hits a Destroyer that was just enough to keep Mathis down.

The Progressive Liberal vs. Rev. Ronnie Roberts- This was a lot of fun to watch. Rev. Ronnie came out praising and asking for amens which was counterattacked by the Progressive Liberal being…well…progressive and liberal. The two eventually tie up with Ronnie getting the better of the exchanges. The two go back and forth before Progressive Liberal finally gets the upper hand and pushes his agenda. The ultimate clash of styles.

Trevor Court vs. Nate Wings- Whoa nelly – what a matchup with Trevor not taking Nate nor his small stature serious. Throughout the match, Trevor seemed to be more interested in talking shit to the fans in the arena than focusing on Nate. At one point, he called a kid “a dumbass” which many of the Jeffersonville faithful didn’t care for. Wings threw everything he had at Trevor but he went to the well one time too many leading to Trevor catching him then transitioning to a vicious jumping Tombstone. Another win for Trevor under the Paradigm banner.

Reed Bentley vs. Joshua Bishop- This was my kind of party. Two psychos smashing each other with door after door after door. No bullshit they were just chucking doors at each other before they started trying to put each other through them. Bentley got up 3-1 before Bishop went on a fucking rampage to tie us all up. Bishop had a vicious chokeslam that nearly put Bentley through the damn ring. Reed had more than some fight left him in though as he came in clutch with a Pepsi Pludge to seal the win at 4 doors to 3.

AJ Gray Open Challenge: We were really looking forward to seeing AJ and Saieve Al Sabah tangle. Sadly though, Saieve had flight trouble leading us to this open challenge. AJ is a fighting champion though so he fought not once but twice on the night going back to back with Camaro Jackson and Lexus Montez (who himself was pulling double duty}. Camaro was out first but AJ was all over him. It didn’t feel like long at all before AJ nearly took the man’s head off with a nasty lariat. Lexus was out next but again he just didn’t have the juice for what AJ was bringing. Another gross lariat and AJ goes to 2-0 on the night. If you’re coming for that Paradigm Championship, you best be ready for a damn fight.

Pride FC Rules: Dominic Garrini vs. Freddie Hudson- I can’t lie this one was hard to watch. I mean not for us because we’re big Dominic Garrini guys, but for the sake of Freddie, this was just rough. He got rocked early then never seemed to bounce back. It felt like Dom could have ended this pretty much whenever he wanted to.

Garrini was constantly transitioning, looking for different submissions and it just seemed Freddie was out of his depth. Dom wins by second round submission. All of this being what it is I’ve got to commend Freddie for the heart to fight as long as he did. Post match, Freddie was jumped by Trevor Court, who was in Freddie’s corner during the match. Dom makes the save as Hudson would eventually be helped to the back.

Taped Fists Match: Brett Ison vs. Gary Jay- You know I don’t think it really mattered what kind of stipulation you put on these two, it was always destined to be a fight. Thankfully, Paradigm just straight up gave us a fist fight. Whether it was in the ring, on the apron, or on the outside these guys were looking to put the other down.

We had a Street Justice on the apron essentially in the middle of the match. That’s how fucking nuts this was. Just the fact that Gary Jay kept throwing bombs post-apron-Street-Justice tells y’all how fucking bad that man is. I mean, we already knew, but more confirmation I guess. The slug fest culminates with Ison hitting an Iron Elbow knocking Gary out cold. After coming back to, Gary told the crowd that of all the BAMFs that he has tangled with, Brett hits the absolute hardest. Not that you needed confirmation, but seek this one out asap.

Stairway to Hell Match for the Blackcraft Championship: Matthew Justice vs. Bradley Prescott IV- Justice, again a noted psycho, killed a motherfucker to become Blackcraft champion and BPIV loves to throw down as long as he’s got some beer. What I’m saying is we had high expectations for the violence in this one. Justice smacked Bradley around early with a couple of kendo sticks but BPIV took it all in stride and dished it right back. When the match was announced, we thought Paradigm may in fact open a portal to hell for this match. Thankfully, it was only a ladder match with no portal warranted. After beating the shit out of each other on land, the two decided to fight on the ladder leading to BPIV taking consecutive kendo sticks shots directly to the dome. Prescott plummets off the ladder and Justice seizes his championship.

Paradigm shows are usually loaded with talent and this was no different. Something for everyone highlighted by a real slugfest between Gary and Brett. Not only did we get a badass show, but we were blessed to have JRose as ring announcer. Big time blessings.  Thanks to the Paradigm crew for putting on a banger of a card and for having us. If you’re in the surrounding Jeffersonville area be ready on May 24th as PPW presents ‘Triumph.’
