Simplification is something I, as an expert in communication and time management (based on one coaching session I hosted at my day job five years ago), believe is critical for effective management. The setting doesn’t matter – be it work, your relationship, whatever….the better you can simplify a message, the easier it is to get on the same page. From there, you can expand upon the details. But, you have to get the simplification right.
If you’re simplifying things in a manner that is counterintuitive, you’re actually making things worse.
Which is why I absolutely hate ‘right tighty, lefty loosey’ with a fiery passion. You’re simplifying which way to turn a screwdriver to tighten a screw. It’s a light illustration of a potential way for simplification to get screwy (pun fucking intended – take it. TAKE IT!). As the north end of the screw turns right, the south end turns left. So, the entire thing is based on assumption.
JUST GRINDS MY FUCKIN’ GEARS, MAN. Anyway, here’s episode two of the SoBros Hot Minute, where I rant about this issue.
