Is D.K. Metcalf Running Routes Through Quicksand?

One of the biggest surprises of the 2019 NFL Draft was just how far former Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf slid. Some analysts thought he’d be a top 10 overall pick. Instead, he fell all the way to the end of the second round before the Seattle Seahawks selected him. A lot of folks considered him the best wide receiver in the draft, and yet eight receivers were drafted ahead of him.

Well, with OTAs in full swing across the NFL, we’re starting to get a glimpse of all the young studs in action. And, Metcalf? Boy, he put a doozy of a route out there on tape…

Yeah, I….listen…um…the kid’s raw. We all knew that going into this whole ordeal. I don’t want to pile on him when the comments under that tweet are essentially burying him.

But, at the same time – that’s just funny. That is a comically bad route. It looks like he’s wading through quicksand just to get to the point of his break.

Then, it takes him approximately 10 steps to stop, and he ends up catching the ball about five yards in front of where he finally stopped. That has pick six written all over it. It’s crazy. I mean, no corner in the league is going to allow that to be a reception. Actually, I highly doubt Russell Wilson even looks at Metcalf in that situation.

I know, I know – I’ve never run a route a day in my life. Therefore, I’m not qualified to speak on the matter. Blah blah blah. Calm your tits. It ain’t like I’m out here saying this kid’s going to be a bust because of one tweet. Metcalf’s going to get a chance to play, but if he keeps running like this, y’all can’t be mad at me when I can’t watch a Seahawks game without laughing.

PS. Not to talk too much shit, but I’m happy the Titans passed on Metcalf for A.J. Brown.
