On June 2, 2019, Southern Underground Pro returned to The Basement East for Those Who Fear Tomorrow, a show that featured TWO SUP championship matches for the first time in the promotion’s history. That’s right – not only did we get a ‘Match of the Year’ contender in Brett Ison vs. Allie Kat, we also crowned the first SUP Tag Team Champions as well. That match was a bloodbath.
So, where does this roster stand as we head towards August’s All Hell Breaks Loose? Let’s hit the SUP Power Rankings.
Honorable Mentions
First things first – gotta give credit to Rockin Rivera, who went out and got a big win over James Bandy.
Also, in what I’d say was the sleeper match of the afternoon, Graham Bell lost to Manders, but it wasn’t without winning the SUP crowd over. Bell is a hoss who stood toe to toe with a guy who has been pretty much invincible so far. Here’s to hoping we see him back in Nashville sooner rather than later.
Finally, I have to mention the gumption of Peyton Polson for accepting A.C. Mack’s open challenge. Not only did he accept the match, but he held his own against the established Action Wrestling champion. In fact, he wrestled so well that Mack had to resort to a cheap shot below the belt just to set up the Mack 10. I expect “The Human BB Gun” will only get better from here.
Now, on to the top 10.
SUP Power Rankings
10. Jaden Newman – Though he lost earlier in the evening, El Numero Uno deserves his first spot on the SUP Power Rankings by virtue of winning the scramble match and capturing his first victory in SUP. A big moment for Newman, and if he can continue his momentum when he finally gets his hands on Manders in August, he’ll be climbing this list quickly.
9. Marko Stunt – Stunt deserves a ton of credit for getting back in that SUP ring and going balls to the walls. He and Cabana Man Dan came up short against Violence Is Forever, but he’s still a former Bonestorm Champion who showed us just how far he’s willing to go to win in that brawl.
8. Jeremy Wyatt – In his debut, Wyatt got the win over a very hungry Jaden Newman. But, that victory came through nefarious means when Manders grabbed Newman’s foot and distracted him. Still, gotta hand it to Wyatt – he may not be popular, but he’s effective. Eager to see if we see more of him here in Nashville.
7. Craig Mitchell – The Midwest Bully got a big win over a red hot Logan Stunt. People shouldn’t sleep on just how good his run in SUP has been. He’s one more big win away from being in the Bonestorm Championship contention discussion, in my opinion.
6. Allie Kat – “The heart and soul of SUP” finally got the championship match she deserved, and if anyone wasn’t a believer before, they are now. She came up short, but now we know she belongs with the best that this scene has to offer. Respect.
5. Cabana Man Dan – We’re starting to see a different side of Dan in SUP. For God’s sake, he brought a thumb-tacked flip flop to the ring at Those Who Fear Tomorrow. Though he (and partner Marko Stunt) lost, it doesn’t take away from the strong year Dan has had in 2019 so far.
4. A.C. Mack – I can’t say I condone the means by which he defeated “The Human BB Gun” Peyton Polson, but a win is a win is a win. The Action Wrestling Champion has yet to lose in SUP, which makes me think he could be gunning to add another belt to his trophy case.
3. Manders – It’s time. The One Called Manders has earned some consideration for a Bonestorm Championship shot. He’s still undefeated in SUP, and in impressive fashion no less. He’ll have his hands full with Jaden Newman in August, but this guy is starting to become a legitimate force in Nashville wrestling.
2. Violence Is Forever – After months of tag team victories, Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku capped off their legendary run with gold. It was an outright war, but they overcame They Might Be Giants, just the latest on their long list of victims.
1.Brett Ison – Different month, same story. The king stay the king. We saw a different side of The Pitbull in his match against Allie Kat, but the result was the same as it’s been for months: a win in a Bonestorm Championship match. His unprecedented run in Nashville continues.
