This came out last week, but I had to put a pin in it to revisit when I got back in the office because it just seems so absurd. So absurd, in fact, that it is at the top of my list this fine Monday morning. According to Caesar’s Palace, Mitch Trubisky is the most-bet player to win the 2019 NFL MVP honors.

Okay, so first impression is “WTF kinda top five is this? WTF are people doing with their lives?” But, then you look around the top five and see that people are probably just taking long shots at this point in the year. Other than Ezekiel Elliott, who is a viable MVP contender if that Dallas o-line returns to form. And, it’s a simple philosophy, really: buy some long odds on someone you think could sneak into MVP race, and maybe you hit the jackpot.
But, Trubisky? TRUBISKY!?!? How did he get into this spot? 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 2018? I mean, don’t get me wrong – I like Trubisky (shout out to kissin’ titties). He’s definitely one of the great young quarterbacks on the ascent in the NFL. But, I don’t know what people are seeing that puts him ahead of Baker Mayfield or Saquon Barkley.
Is it possible that Chicago Bears fans just make up a large portion of degenerates who bet in July?! Maybe. And, no – I’m not passing judgment. I’ll be placing bets on bullshit in the middle of the summer, too, just as soon as it’s legally legal in Tennessee.
If I’m going dark horse MVP picks, I think I ride with my guy Derrick Henry. If he’s anything like the player who finished the season for the Titans in 2018, he’s going to be a bona fide MVP candidate.
My actual MVP pick? As we stand here in July? Andrew Luck. Not going to be popular among the Titans fans who routinely read my Titans coverage. But, the dude rebounded in 2018 and was a contender for MVP then. He’s only going to be better and healthier in 2019.
Then again, maybe Trubisky’s stans know something we don’t and this whole thing makes sense. We’ll check back come February.
Shit, who am I kidding? We’re all going to forget this “story” by next week. This is peak offseason writing.
