Nashville Reviews: PDK Kitchen

PDK Kitchen first popped up on my radar a couple of months ago, when a location opened in the Providence area of Mount Juliet. “Oh great, another restaurant,” I thought sarcastically. But, when someone mentioned that this place had some bomb ass Nashville hot chicken, it grabbed my attention.

So, I figured I’d give it a shot and add it to our budding anthology of Nashville hot chicken reviews.

Flavor: 4/10 – Gotta say – my immediate reaction…my bite one thoughts were, “this is just more heat than flavor.” As I worked on it, the flavor grew on me a bit, but it still wasn’t anywhere near the elite hot chicken joints in town. It was slightly below average.

Texture: 3/10 – It was a good cut of chicken, but it was almost too juicy. The damn thing was so juicy the breading was falling off. Like, if you wanted a really good piece of chicken with a pile of really hot breading, this is your dish!

Heat: 7.5/10 – This was pretty close to the perfect level of heat – I’ll give ’em that. Just the right amount of sniffle, and short of being painful. When I order something “hot,” this is what I expect. Kudos for that.

Fixins: 6/10 – The fries were so so good – seasoned with some sort of seasoning salt that made them pop with flavor and cooked just right. I actually liked serving the hot chicken on a bed of sourdough toast – thought that was a nice touch. But, the bread and butter pickles….as much as I love bread and butter pickles…didn’t go well with the hot chicken. I want some dill, baby, and plenty of it.

Overall: 5.13/10 – It’s aight. Aight. I’m up for going back and giving something else off the menu a try. It looked pretty decent. But, if I’m in Mount Juliet and have a craving for hot chicken, I’m looking for the Hurts Hot Chicken food truck. If he ain’t there, I’m just going to go to Riverfront Tavern and get the sliders.
