Hey, if you guys haven’t heard, Nashville is a pretty expensive place to live. Since the Music City has become this destination ‘it city,’ and mecca of entertainment of all varieties, that’s to be expected. But, maybe not at the rate we’re now seeing it. This town has grown immensely in the 33 years I’ve been on this planet. Now, we’re seeing stats that track that growth and put it into context on what feels like a daily basis. And, folks – we got us a new one. This one’s about Nashville rent, and it’s a strong indicator of just how quickly, and ‘spensively, the market is growing.
The July report for Nashville from rental marketplace Apartment List finds rents in Music City have increased 1.2% over the past month with a median rent of $1,160 for a two-bedroom.
Over the past 12 months, rent growth in Nashville has grown by 2.2%, outpacing the state and national averages according to the report.
Honestly, I don’t know if we should be concerned by this or proud of it. Like, how long is it before Nashville can essentially just name its price? “You want that broom closet there? $4,200/month.” You already can’t go on a nice date night downtown without spending $100 easily. That’s why most of my dates take place at the Krystal.
So, maybe we should puff our chests out a little bit – we have people throwing away money at an alarming rate just to live here. What’s the saying? 100 new people move here every day?
Who cares that it’s pushing the locals – the unicorns, if you will – further and further out of the city? People are just fuckin’ GIVING away money at this point.
Shit, I’ma try to rent out half of the couch in my living room. $2,000 a month….you get that one half of the couch to yourself.
Eventually, our beloved Nashville is just going to become a playground for the wealthy….if it isn’t already, y’all.
