The Future Is Now: The Rising Stars of SCI Weekend 2019

Damn, I’m sure you guys are getting tired of reading about how awesome SCI was in these set-up introduction paragraphs I’ve been writing ALL WEEK LONG NOW (I promise I’m almost done). But, by now, you guys get it. We’re continuing to look at this event from all different angles. Tonight, I’m listing some eye-catchers. Guys who made the most of the opportunities they had over SCI weekend.

Quick shout out to Zachary Cooper – dude has been nothing but solid in SUP since making his debut. He put on a banger against Manders and Garvin at SCI Futures and was in the midst of a good one with Dominic Garrini at SUP before a freak injury. Get well soon, Zach – I can speak for everyone at SoBros Network when I say we’re wishing nothing but the best for you, brother.

The Rising Stars of SCI Weekend 2019

Alan Angels – Angels was in the SCI Futures showcase a year ago. So, this weekend wasn’t necessarily a star-making weekend for Angels – we’ve known what he’s capable of for a while. More so, it was a case of a guy earning spots and outperforming. He had a strong showing against Cain Justice, and earned a spot in the Scenic City Scramble. But, it was his fun match against Bradley Prescott IV at SUP that reminded me, “man, this guy is good.” I think he’s ready for the big tournament. Maybe SCI 2020?

Benjamin Carter – Mose and I were convinced that Carter was going to win the SCI Futures showcase. He made it the finals, and we all know how that went for him. But, I came away noticing what an extremely clean and polished game he has, on top of having an outright exciting brand of wrestling.

Bobby Flaco – Another of the guys who I was seeing for the first time this past weekend. I’d heard rumblings about him, but was completely impressed seeing him in person. Flaco made it all the way to the SCI Futures finals where he showed out.

Big Beef Gnarls Garvin – Everyone was talking about that hoss battle at SCI Futures. I think I’m still showing symptoms of a concussion just from watching it. But, Garvin flat out got over during that match. Fans were chanting “beef” like crazy, including a hilarious dueling corn vs. beef chant. We gotta run him and Manders back again some time…or hell, as Mose suggested, team ’em up as “Corn Beef.”

IFHY – Breakout wrestlers of the weekend. I’ll say it. Shawn Kemp and Johnathan Wolf didn’t just get a foot in the door….they kicked the damn door off the hinges. Learning about just how much that weekend meant to that crew on a recent episode of Checks and Championships made it all the more sweeter. Their matches against the Smokin’ Budz and Violence Is Forever were two of the best of the entire weekend.

Lutha X – This was my first time seeing Lutha X after hearing about the dude for months. I get it. Dude had a strong showing at Crux Wrestling and at SCI Futures. He took part in a six-man tag against The Carnies and Jaden Newman on SCI Night 2. His presence is unbelievable and I thought for sure the TWE Arena was going to riot because of his attitude on Thursday night.

Smokin’ Budz – Cody and David Morton are superstars in the making. It’s time the rest of Tennessee wakes up to just how talented these guys are. They were only booked once, taking on IFHY at Crux Wrestling’s Hey Jealousy, but they made the most of the opportunity, putting on one of the best matches of the weekend.
