Let’s Take a Moment to Appreciate Alex Zayne

Big, big weekend for the guy. There’s no doubt in my mind that our days of watching Alex Zayne on the indies are numbered. If you’ve ever seen the guy live, you know he’s carrying around a wealth of superstar potential. Every time Mose and I see him, he just seems to be better and more popular. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve said, “man, it’s only a matter of time…”

And, for good reason – the guy is as talented a wrestler as you’ll find on the indies right now. Some of the stuff he does just seems to defy physics. Zayne makes things that would put my ass in a coma and/or full body cast look as simple as lifting a finger. Take his patented Crunch Wrap, for instance:

And then, there’s stuff like this:

Absolutely ridiculous. So much so that I have questions.

  • How do you even think of this to begin with? That’s innovation at its finest.
  • How do you pull this off without killing yourself and/or your opponent?

This sort of thing is a testament to just how athletically gifted Zayne is. It’s amazing. “The Sauce” HAS to be the breakout star of 2019, right?!?! I mean, we’ll be announcing our ‘Breakout Star of the Year’ nominees in a couple of weeks, but I don’t know who would take that mantle other than Zayne. As soon as he was announced for GCW’s backyard show, Mose told me, “watch him – he’s about to blow up.” That’s all he needed – an opportunity on a larger stage. Tennessee has seen how good Zayne is for quite awhile now.

We watched him wrestle another 2019 breakout candidate, Blake Christian, in a barn-burner at the Gladeville Community Center over the summer. So, I’m happy that he’s caught fire on a national stage. To see them take that match across the country for multiple promotions now – it’s just insane. Maybe I’m a little biased…he did give us our first wrestler interview on Checks and Championships, after all…but it’s hard to imagine guys this good can stay underrated for long.

The secret’s out.

To the promoters out there who may be reading this, I’d say book him while you can. To the fans out there, I’d say get to a show that has him on the card whenever you can. You want a look at the future? Alex Zayne is the future.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
