Since the beginning of the autumn season is upon us, the department stores have stocked their shelves with Halloween decor, and we are seeing temperatures drop down to a crisp sixty degrees, we thought we should put together a list of events happening in Nashville this October.
10 Spooky Things to do in Nashville this October
1. Walden Pumpkin Farm – link – pumpkin picking, hay rides, corn maze, and homemade treats! The farm is open September 21st through October 31st. Tickets aren’t necessary but all activities require “Walden Bucks”. You can purchase your pumpkins with regular ‘ole human bucks though.
2. Full Moon Cineplex – This Hermitage theater screens old and new horror movies almost every week along with an option of a themed dinner! It’s one of our absolute favorite places in the Nashville area. Check out the October schedule that includes Return of the Living Dead, Beetlejuice, Halloween, and more here.
3. Adventure Science Center’s Way Late Play Date: Hollywood Horror edition – Way Late Play Date is a fun and “grown up” way to enjoy the science center with a beverage or two. They have different themes throughout the year and October is all about classic movie monsters! Explore Frankenstein’s lab or learn about the Mummy’s Curse on October 3rd. Tickets available here.
4. Amigo the Devil, King Dude and Twin Temple at Mercy Lounge – If live music is your thing, then we suggest snagging tickets to this October 20th show. The event’s tagline reads “Helping dark hearts tell their love stories one song at a time.” Get your satanic doo-wop on and grab tickets here.
5. 12 Hours of Terror at Belcourt Theatre – Willing to watch 7 horror movies in a row? On October 21st, it will be the 8th time that the Belcourt has put on this overnight event. The films haven’t been announced, but there are always clues released leading up to the night. Brave cinephiles get your tickets here.
(Editor’s note: Shout out to our friend E for doing this last year and writing up an article on it for us!)
6. Halloween at Hogwarts with the Nashville Symphony – The Schermerhorn Symphony Center transforms into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on October 5th. If you love the ghostly music from the Harry Potter films, join conductor Enrico Lopez-Yañez and check out this event that includes an instrument petting zoo!
7. Boo at the Zoo – This event has become a Nashville tradition and a family favorite over the years. You and your little ones can throw on your costumes and catch shows, visit trick-or-treating stations and maybe see a tiger or two. Dates and tickets posted here.
8. Cheekwood Harvest – Cheekwood Estate and Gardens is one of the most beautiful places in Nashville. This year, they are bringing back their Pumpkin House along with their invasion of Scarecrows created by the Nashville community. Even folks without a green thumb can appreciate the fall foliage that covers the gardens. (Although technically not in October, Cheekwood also puts on a El Dia De Los Muertos event on November 2nd.) Tickets here.
9. Nashville City Cemetery’s 20th Annual Living History Tour – “If Tombstones Could Talk: Triumph and Tragedy from the Wild, Wild Western Frontier” is the title of this year’s tour. History buffs and ghost enthusiasts alike will enjoy this event put on by the city’s oldest cemetery by its very own residents on October 12th. There is a daytime tour and a night time tour. Snag your tickets here.
10. Deadland Haunted Woods & Spooky’s Pizza & Grill – We put these two together because they are only 11 minutes away from each other and make for an excellent, spooky Friday night. If haunts are your thing, we suggest Deadland, as it boasts 3 attractions on their grounds and is becoming one of the most popular haunts in Middle Tennessee. Buy tickets in advance here.
But before you get the pants scared off of you at Deadland, grab a slice at Spooky’s Pizza and Grill off of Lebanon Rd. in Murfreesboro. This monster themed establishment serves up killer pizza with clever names to match. There isn’t much seating inside, but if you find yourself there on one of those magical and rare Nashville fall nights, the outside patio will be just perfect.
